AJ Wander Music Promotions Interview

Singer-songwriter Aj Wander recently spoke with Music Promotions about his brand new single ‘Take It All’, Living in Australia, signing a record deal and much more.

What is the story behind ‘ Take It All’?

‘Take It All’ is me learning to let go, reminding myself not to get distracted by glimpses of light amongst the darkness. It’s a moment of remembering my self-worth and gaining perspective on a toxic situation. I wrote the song with my mate Gethin Williams last winter, in his caravan in rural Wales.

How long did you spend writing and recording?

Geth and I wrote the song in one very late night. I was fortunate enough to travel to Spain earlier this year to record the track with Brad Mair at his studio about an hour outside of Barcelona. It was a really magical experience and I hope some of that magic was captured by the microphones in the room.

How much has changed for you since signing your management and record deal?

You know, not an awful lot. I spend much more time on zoom, but my days are filled with creating music as they have been for a while now – songwriting is my home.

You come from a very musical family, Music was always what you wanted to do yourself?

I think I’ve always known it’s something I wanted to pursue, however having the confidence to take the leap and set my sights on making it a reality is another question. I was about 18/19 when I finally plucked up the courage to dedicate myself to making music.

What artists inspire you?

Ooof, how long have we got? To name a few:

– BobDylan
– MaggieRogers – BonIver
– FleetwoodMac – KingsofLeon

– CarolKing

As a songwriter yourself, are there any songwriters you’d love to write with?

Agin…how long have we got!? I’m sure there are 10387698364 people that I’d love to write with but here are a few of those I’m already aware of:

– Maggierogers,JamesBay,Frances,JPSaxe,Foxes,Finneas,Jimmy Napes

How did you find your time living in Australia?

To cut a long story short – I bloody loved it. It was whilst I was living in Australia that I committed myself to pursue a life creating music; It’s a special place that I hold very dear to my heart and can’t wait to get over there again to give it a hug.

Do you have an EP or full-length album coming?

Currently, in the middle of prepping for an EP release early next year….an album feels a little way off for me right now, still learning to walk before I swim.

What about live tours? anything you can talk about?

All I can say is, this is what I’m craving the most in my life right now. To get out and play some damn shows in front of real-life humans. I can also say that this craving will be answered in 2022 and I’m oh so excited for it.

What music are you currently listening to?

Ashe, Holly Humberstone, Ber, Tom Speight, Bob Dylan, Oh Wonder

Final Messages?

Nope – I’m off to eat curry!
(Hopefully catch you lovely people at a show sometime…)
