One Night in Nashvile Interview With Music Promotions

How is the “One Night In Nashville” tour going? It is going really well thank you, we have had our busiest year so far and this was the first year we not only played festivals but went straight to headlining them so there have been a few incredible ‘pinch me moments’. We are just about to head out on the busiest part of the tour yet. After working on this for so many years, I am just trying to stay in the moment and soak up every single minute.

How long have you been touring with the show?
Dave the drummer and I started One Night In Nashville after a songwriting trip over there back in 2015, we came back and started running the show along with a songwriter round, main show and redneck disco regularly throughout the North west of England so almost ten years. We gradually took the show further afield and last year was our first fully UK wide tour which sold out everywhere.

Your setlist has a lot of amazing country songs, how do you choose the ones that will be included in the show each night? From years of performing the show you learn which songs get the best reaction, feedback and you can generally feel the energy of the crowd.
We try to include a mix of fun songs, really brilliantly written songs and beautiful stripped back ballads.

Do you change any per show?  Yes, we are always listening to new country so we will add some of the biggest hits in to the set throughout the year.

Country music is definitely more mainstream and more popular with wider audiences, what do you think changed with country music to make more of an impact on the music scene? I feel like Country music leans into many other music genres now so it is capturing a wider demographic. Artists such as Post Malone who previously released other styles of music have also pulled in a lot of new fans of country with his latest album (which is amazing by the way) and there is no denying the phenomenal global success of Taylor Swift.
I think most of all Country seems to be the most consistent genre for a really well written song, incredible storytelling, production values, authenticity and musicianship, in a world of throwaway, quick hits and i genuinely feel that people care about these things. The quality of the live shows are unmatched too. What I really love about this genre is that you don’t have to look a certain way to ‘fit in’, just be really good at your craft and i think people relate to that and the authenticity. We are now seeing entire families coming to our shows from 9 years old to 80 plus which is so lovely to see.

You worked with local songwriters in Nashville, how much did your own songwriting change when working with these songwriters? Nashville songwriters write like it is their 9-5 job, so they are extremely well crafted at writing daily whereas i usually write when a melody comes to me or i am feeling passionate about a specific subject so it really turned things on its head for me on how i now approach writing. I like to dabble between the two methods.

When you writing a song how does it go from an okay song to a great song? What makes a great song for you?  I kind of feel that the initial ideas are sometimes the best part of the song and then the rest of the time you are piecing together a puzzle so i would say that you kind of know from early on if the song is a great song. Production and recording can be a game changer but at the end of the day a good song is a good song with just a voice and guitar so you usually feel it early on in the writing process.

Your album “landslide” is available on Spotify- what was your inspiration when recording and writing that album?  I had a really tough childhood and for me writing was a way for me to vent my thoughts and emotions. A lot of the heartbreak i talk about in that album are references to the pain i went through as a child and processing that pain and then going on to find someone who loved me. Music and songwriting gave me something worth fighting for and a way to escape and I hope that one day people see my story and are inspired that there is a way out and that they are not alone and when you put your mind to something there is no stopping you.

Do you have your next album ready for release is that something you’re working on right now? Yes I have a handful of songs in the bag which i will be releasing aswel as music from the live show. When i released my first album all we had was digital, print and very early days of social media so i love that it is now easier than ever to connect to new fans via social media. I feel that this is the most authentic way you can tell your story and talk to fans with full creative control and I am totally embracing it.

What have been some stand out moments in your career? Writing in Nashville, I had to take a minute to pinch myself and wonder if it was real and headlining festivals this year (we have played to over 40,000 people this year) because these moments have been my dream for such a long time (almost 30 years in the making). You have no idea how many times i thought this simply wouldn’t happen as it has taken so long and we have had an inhuman amount of set backs over the past 30 years but with some exciting plans for 2025 I have a feeling the best is yet to come.

Your merchandise, did you design that yourself? (For anyone who’s doesn’t know they can buy it at your one store and at the live shows) Yes I designed the range, inspired by the cool boutiques in Nashville.  Just like the show i wanted people to feel they were experiencing Nashville with the merch line and something they would actually want to wear.

Which have been some of your favorite venues to perform at so far? And where are you looking forward to performing next? Any venues on your bucket list? As a Manchester girl, the Ritz had always been a venue i went to see big US artists perform so when we got the chance to perform here this year I was just in awe and felt so proud, because it felt like we had really come a long way after so many years of hard work. Headlining Country Festivals this year has also been incredible. Again looking out from back stage on to a crowd of 8000 people, these are the moments I dreamed of for so long so to see it come to life is just magical. I have had Albert Hall, Manchester on my vision board for a few years now and when we started working with our booking agent this year I told him it was on my bucket list and he made it happen. Again somewhere i actually go to watch artists i love so this feels like another dream come true. We have some very special venues lined up for 2025 (which i am tight lipped about for now) but again these are real dream come true venues that I simply cannot wait to share with everyone and experience.

How do you prepare for a live show?  The shows are always a mad dash of travel, load in, sound check and getting ready so i always try and to take a moment of solitude to gather my thoughts and be in the moment to appreciate it. The day can usually start at 11am with vocal warm ups, travelling to the venue (which can be anywhere from 1-4 hours away), setting up, sound checking, performance, meet and greet, packing down, driving home so it can take a lot out of you so i always find time during the week to pace, meditate, and recover.

Whah music is currently on your streaming platforms right now? Post Malone- F1 Trillion (Album), Chris Stapleton (all of his albums are always on rotate), Miranda Lambert Wildcard (Album), Brothers Osbourne, Luke Combs, Carly Pearce, Sam Fender and a heavy rock mix to keep us awake on our late night drive home from shows. I always have Country Radio on too.

Finals messages from you? Just that we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us or come to a show. We have worked on this for so long so to finally see our dreams materialise is just beyond wonderful and we are so grateful that we get to share this experience with the fans. I really feel like i am living the dream right now and couldn’t be more thankful.
