Lexi Berg Music Promotions Interview

LEXI BERG
Meet singer songwriter Lexi Berg, Her song ‘What If’ was used on Netflix show “pieces Of A Woman” her new single is called ‘Helpless To Help You’ her new EP is released this year, she recently caught up with Music Promotions to discuss all this and much more, the full interview is below.

How did your song come to be featured on the Netflix show ‘pieces Of A Woman’?

My song “What If” was playlisted by the editorial team at Spotify and then picked up by a sync company in LA! It was so exciting! They called me up and told me this small indie film wanted to use it. No one expected the film to win so many awards.

How did it feel to hear your song played on a Netflix show?

The movie is so powerful and about such an important subject. I feel very lucky to be a part of such a special project.

What is the story behind your new single ‘Helpless To Help You’?

Helpless to Help You is about the frustration we can all feel when someone we love is hurting and in pain. It’s about love and supporting that person in a real way.

This song has a different style to your previous singles, ( Love it) was it a natural progression in the change of sound or do you like to change your style with each song?

Yes absolutely! And the rest of the EP follows that progression. I’ve tried to create a collection of tracks that vary in style and mood, and catapults us up and down just like our emotions do.

What is your creative process when you are songwriting?

I write down ideas in my journal every day. Titles, song topics, a mood, emotion etc. Then when I go into a co-writing session, we’ll play around with melodies and music and we’ll piece together the different parts and ideas to create a little world for the listener to step into.

Are their any songwriters and producers you’d love to work with?

I feel hugely lucky to have worked with my brilliant collaborators. Everyday is exciting and I have loved every minute. Of course it’s exciting to work with new people and it would be a thrill to write with legends and icons like my heroes like Benny and Bjorn from ABBA, or Stevie and Lindsey from Fleetwood.

Any artists you’d like to collaborate with?

I would kill to work with Tame Impala, or maybe some country artists like Casey Musgrave.

You worked with producer “Jimmy Hogarth” on your current single what is he like to work with?

The dream! Jimmy is an absolute legend and produced some of my favourite artists. I grew up listening to his Sia albums in particular. He’s helped create songs that are individual and musical. Every part of the recording process was amazing because Jimmy brought together the most fantastic players and had such a vision for each song. I felt truly grateful working with such fantastic people.

Where did you shoot the video for ‘ Helpless to help You’?

We shot it in this very cool house in Deptford London.

Empire Of One your EP when is this going to be released?

Around late August/ September!

How long did you spend writing and recording it?

All together I wrote over 100 songs with different writers. Then we chose the ones that felt right to release as the world slowly opens up after the pandemic. Then we spent a couple of days recording and Jimmy finished it off at his home studio. So overall a few months!

Could you talk us through some of the tracks to your EP?

The whole EP is my response to the past year, but the songs tackle and address universal topics. I want each song to feel relatable and for the listener to feel the emotions.

Will you be doing any live shows?

Hopefully! I am dying to play live.

What ARE your social media platforms for any new fans to follow you?

@BERG on instagram and @lexibergmusic on every other platform

Final messages?

I hope listeners respond the emotion and heart that have gone into this record. All the co-writers, producers, and musicians put their hearts and souls into it. Hopefully these songs will speak to audiences and allow listeners  to release some of the emotions that have been trapped over the past months.

Anything further you would like to mention?

We’ve All felt anxiety, sadness and grief during this pandemic. Now we need some joy and magic. Hopefully my music can add a little of that to the world.
