SHEPPARD are back with their new album KALEIDOSCOPE EYES which is out today, Amy recently spoke to Music Promotions about the album, favourite songs to record, how much their music has changed over the years, live streaming the album and much more interview below.
How long did it take you to write and record the album?
It took us around 2 years to write this album. Although we finished most of the tracks last year, we started writing some of them in 2019.
What is your process when it comes to writing and recording? Where did you record the album?
There’s no set process to our song writing. Sometimes we like to write within the band and sometime we like to collaborate with overseas writers. It’s fun to mix it up. We will often start with a guitar riff or some chords and then start to piece together a melody. Jay Bovino often produces the tracks in our home studio in Brisbane. This is where we recorded most of this album.
Where does your inspiration come from?
Inspiration can come from all sorts of places! It’s hard to figure out where “the magic” come from but an idea can spark from a cool word or a personal experience or a fun rhythm or melody.
Can you talk more about the live stream album-performance?
Seeing as we can’t tour this album like we would normally do, we have committed to streaming our show on YouTube so that fans all over the world can tune in. Check it out on our YouTube page on Saturday the 27th of February or head to our website for more information.
Do you have touring plans when it is safe to do so? Any plans to come back to the UK?
Although all of our touring plans are on hold at the moment, the UK is always on our list of places to go. We miss you guys!
What venues are on your bucket list to perform at?
I think it would be any musicians honour to perform at the Royal Albert Hall or The O2.
What is a typical day like for Sheppard?
There is no typical day in the life of Sheppard. We always have to be flexible and can’t really make any solid plans in advance. If we are in writing mode, we usually have the mornings off (in true musician style we will meet at our home studio around midday and begin a writing session we usually write until around 7ish.
What music are you currently streaming?
Sasha Sloan
What are your plans for the rest of this year?
We will be promoting this album as much as we can and taking any opportunities that come up for live shows. We also plan to continue writing new music as that is what we are most passionate about.
