Her single ”I’m not Pretty” is one of the biggest streaming songs on Spotify, she’s signed a deal with Republic Records, she has a huge future a head of her, her name Is JESSIA and she is the artist of 2021 to watch out for.
JESSIA recently took time to speak with Music Promotions about her single, songwriting, working with legend and songwriting genius ’Ryan Tedder’ and much more, full interview below.
You recently signed with Republic Records, how was that for you? How did you feel in the moment you signed your deal?
Yes! It is still hard to believe because they have some of my biggest idols on their roster. Signing was crazy but I’m sad i couldn’t be in the room with my new team to share the moment together but the zoom party was super fun.
What is it like to be working with Ryan Tedder and Republic Records?
I have been a fan of Ryan for YEARSSS and to have him even know who I am is insane! He is such a genius and such a humble dude. I feel so blessed to have such driven and amazing people supporting me!
How long have you been singing?
I have been singing since before I could talk. My family thought I was weird haha
Your single ‘I’m not Pretty’ is out now, what was the story behind this song? How long did it take you to write it?
It was inspired by a TikTok sound that stated “I’ve never seen two pretty best friends”. It got me thinking, all of my friends are gorgeous so maybe I’m not the pretty one of the group? I wrote the song in 2 days with Elijah Woods! It was a wild 48 hours haha
How would you best describe your music?
My songwriting is very conversational. I love using organic sounds in my songs. We literally bang pots and pans together to make my music.
As a songwriter where do you find your inspiration?
I like going for walks and talking about life with my friends and drawing ideas from that.
How long do you spend songwriting?
If the core of the song doesn’t come to me in around 30 mins I’m probably not going to finish it haha my songs just spill out usually.
What songwriters and artists inspire you?
I love Julia Michaels, Conan Gray, Jeremy Zucker, Sia, Jessie J just to name a few…
How was it working with Elijah Woods? How did this collaboration come about?
Amazing!! I have wanted to work with him since I saw him on The Launch. He is such an incredible producer and has such fresh ideas. The fact that we wrote “I’m not Pretty” from a distance really shows just how talented he is!
Your TikTok music videos are very fresh and different to anything that’s been done before who comes up with the concept for the videos?
Honestly, I just post stuff that I like and hope other people like it too haha TikTok is hard to crack!
Are you currently working on a follow up single to ‘I’m not Pretty’ and an EP or album?
Yes!!! I’m so so stoked to share new music!!
What kind of style can we expect from your future music?
I’m excited to show a softer side of my music. There are some ballads on my
album I’m really stoked to share!
You got a twitch account to play live music, have you got any live streaming coming up?
I do have a twitch! I live stream on instagram and TikTok mostly!
What music are you currently listening to?
Lots of Conan Gray and Harry Styles
When live music opens up again, do you have anything live in the works?
Hopefully! I can’t wait to play some live shows!!
What are your plans for this year?
Droppin an album??? Lots of crazy stuff planned!!
