Skaar Interview

The Other side of waiting what was the story behind this EP?

The EP is a story from after I moved from Stord (the little island where I grew up) to Oslo. And ever since I was little I’ve been waiting and dreaming of doing music full time, and now it’s finally happening! So the other side of waiting (the name of the EP) is about situations happening in my life after I started living my dream!

What was the idea behind the video for Turn Of The Tide? Was that your car used in the video?   The idea was that we wanted to travel to «Skaar» to film all the videos for the EP there. We wanted to show people where I’m from to give kind of a presentation of the project. The video for turn of the tide is showing a change happening in my life, going from city to town and vice versa! And the car is my mother’s! She calls it «the Elsa blue car», as in Elsa from Frozen haha!

Where did you shoot the video?

I shot the video on «Skaar» where my dad grew up!  What was it like to grow up in Norway? What was the music scene like for you growing up? Who did you listen to? Growing up in Norway has been amazing. Having the opportunity to do and achieve anything I want has been key! In the small place I grew up, Music wasnt really a very big deal. But I kinda always had an internal drive to do it anyways, so I didn’t notice much of the culture around me!  When I grew up I listened a lot to Coldplay and Foo fighters. They are still my biggest inspirations!

Did you always want a music career growing up?

Yes! It’s weird, and I can’t really explain it. But that dream has always been there!

Where does your inspiration come from when your writing a song?  My inspiration comes from things happening in my life, things happening in my friends lives or around me, a song I just listened to, nature etc. I get inspired by a lot of things!

What have you missed the most during lockdown?

I’ve missed hugging people.. And playing concerts! And dancing in the club on a saturday night… I miss dancing so much!

Do you have any plans to tour? (When you can)

Yes I do! Of course I have to review the corona situation going forward, but I am not gonna die knowing I didn’t have a world tour!!

What has been your biggest challenge as an artist?

I think my biggest challenge has been not believing in my self and doubting what I have to offer. Sometimes the only one slowing down the process is me, because I’m scared I’m not good enough.. And that really sucks!

What music are you current streaming?  A lot of Bon Iver! I tend to get a little bit sad in the fall, so that makes Bon Iver my trusted companion!

Plans for the next year? Gonna make some magical music and hopefully have a better year than 2020!!
