What was the writing process with “First Christmas Together”?
This song came from a personal place—I wanted to capture the warmth and magic of spending your first Christmas with someone special. It’s all about those little moments: wrapping presents by the fire, decorating together, and feeling like this time of year just means more when you’re with the right person. The writing process felt like painting a picture of a dream Christmas.
You wrote the song in France in the summer? What was the vibe writing this song?
Yes, I wrote it during a summer writing trip to France, back in July—talk about irony! I was sitting under this gorgeous sunny sky in thirty degree heat, surrounded by sunflower fields, but I couldn’t stop thinking about cozy Christmas nights by the fire. The vibe was relaxed but also nostalgic, almost like I was fast-forwarding to December in my head. It was a mix of romance and holiday daydreaming.
How long did you spend writing and recording this one?
Writing the song came pretty quickly because I knew exactly what I wanted to say—it felt natural, like writing a letter. Recording, though, took a little more time because I wanted the production to feel intimate and classic but still modern. I’d say altogether it was a few weeks of work spread out between tweaking lyrics, vocals, and production details.
When it comes to the songwriting and the production, do you like the recording studio vibe or do you prefer a certain location?
I love the recording studio vibe—it’s like a little creative bubble where magic happens. That said, for songwriting, I love to switch it up! Being in a beautiful setting, like France in this case, really helps me relax and connect to the mood of a song. So, I’d say songwriting outdoors and recording in the studio is the perfect balance.
Can you talk more about the single’s photo cover?
The cover artwork is all about simplicity and intimacy. It’s warm, soft, and timeless—just like the song. I wanted the visuals to match the feeling of being wrapped up in a cozy blanket with someone you love. There’s also a subtle festive touch that hints at Christmas without being over-the-top. The cover is so special to me because it features my boyfriend and my puppy—my “golden boys.” We shot it at my parents’ house, which is where I’ve spent every Christmas growing up, so it holds a lot of personal meaning. I wanted the cover to feel as warm and genuine as the song itself, and having them both there made it really special.
Was the lyric video for this shoot in the same context as your previous singles, including “Reset Me” and “Space”?
Yes, absolutely. It’s in the same context as “Reset Me” and “Space”—wholesome, acoustic vibes that really complement the music. 2024 has been my ‘back to basics’ year, where I’ve stripped back the production on the songs and kept it piano/guitar and warm vocals. I’ve focused on letting the music tell the story, and I’m so glad people have followed along so happily. This lyric video is a continuation of that simplicity and authenticity. I wanted it to feel like an extension of the song itself—warm, intimate, and festive.
What is your ideal Christmas holiday?
My ideal Christmas holiday is staying in, lighting a fire, and just enjoying a slow day with my favourite people. Lots of food, some classic Christmas films, like ‘Love Actually’ and ‘The Holiday’ and wrapping presents while a festive playlist plays in the background. Bonus points if there’s snow outside!
What are some of your favourite Christmas songs?
I love the classics! I My favourite is “Step Into Christmas” by Elton John—it’s so upbeat and fun and I’m a sucker for Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You”. I also really enjoy “Last Christmas” by Wham!—it’s so bittersweet but still festive. I also realized there aren’t many Christmas songs that focus on those quiet, happy moments—the ones that feel really personal and intimate. That’s part of what inspired me to write “First Christmas Together”.
Moving into next year, do you have singles planned?
Yes! I’ve been working on a few projects that I’m really excited to share. I can’t say too much yet, but 2025 is going to be about fresh energy and stepping into some new creative spaces. I’m really excited to share new music that shows a different side of me. Each one feels like a step forward creatively, so I can’t wait to see how people connect with them.
Would you like to perhaps work with other artists next year?
Absolutely. I’d love to collaborate with artists who share a similar vision or vibe. There’s something really inspiring about blending different styles and perspectives—it always pushes me to grow. Whether it’s writing, performing, or experimenting with new sounds, I’m open to exploring something unexpected.
Anything live coming up?
I’m already thinking ahead to 2025! I’m planning some intimate shows where I can reconnect with my fans and share the acoustic, heartfelt songs I’ve released this year. There’s something so special about stripping things back and letting the music speak in a more personal way—I can’t wait to bring that to life!
Final messages from you?
Thank you so much for all the love and support this year—it means the world. “Reset Me” has had the best reaction and streaming numbers I’ve ever seen within the first few months of its release, and it means so much that people have connected to my happy songs just as much as my sassy breakup tracks. I’m so grateful you’ve come on this journey with me, and I hope “First Christmas Together” brings you all the warmth and joy of the season. Wishing you a holiday full of love, connection, and all the little moments that matter most!
