Georgie Music Promotions Interview

Georgie

Music Promotions had the oppitunity to speak talented singer songwriter Georgie about the release of her new album ‘At Home’ new single ‘Simple Things’ recording music in lockdown, touring plans, live streaming and more.

What was the story behind ‘SimpleThings’?
Simple Things is all about enjoying the little moments that may be taken for granted but actually releasing its all those simple things that make this life so precious. I think Ive learnt that a lot over lockdown. We were kind of forced in a way to only be able to do the small things such as family quiz’s on FaceTime and cooking with loved ones or housemates. Things that we may have otherwise been too busy to do or too distracted by the big plans in life. So yeah its about appreciated the simple things and hopefully it lifts people spirits during this pandemic.

Is this song a good representaion of your album ‘At Home’?
I think seeing as the album was written during lockdown and the context of the song, I suppose it is really. However the album is a bit of ride in the way that it goes from highs to lows, hope to loss, through redemption and love. So I think a whole ray of emotions are created its not just an album full of ballads.

At Home was released last year, Can you talk everyone through some of the tracks the story behind them?
Yeah so I wrote the album as I was recorded it, so track by track really, as I had so much time in the first lockdown. It was such a natural process though I wasn’t really in the mindset of right ive got this project im going to start it on this date and finish  it on this date. I just started the process by writing songs as soon as we hit lockdown because it just felt like the most normal thing for me to do and I felt like I had so many emotions to unveil and so much to say. So Rule We Broke was the first song I wrote and thats a story of young, complex love. And about in young love sometimes the rules are broke and we mess up but it doesn’t matter. Blue Waters just felt right to finish the album with song and it was the last song I wrote thats about being hopeful especially during this pandemic and looking forward to seeing people we love and have missed again. Company was a song that I wrote because I was missing hanging in the beer garden with my friends so much. And about the real beauty of company and again maybe it can be something thats taken for granted and we don’t realise till it’s gone. I love the carefree lyric of Me and You Only too that song means a lot to me.

How long did you spend writing and recording this cd?
So I think I started literally as the first lockdown began and finished it in May. So a couple of months. It was a great process it was one of those rare moments as a writer when everything your writing feels right for the record. There was no songs in between that got thrown away everything was used. Which can be rare haha sometimes I write 30 terrible songs to get to a good one.

How has your life changed since you signed with Soul Kitchen Recordings?
Yeah I mean its great, everyone is great at Soul Kitchen and the most important thing is is that I get complete freedom with my creativity and thats fully supported. I released this record with them but obviously because of Covid ive not been able to get around and do the usual things like festivals etc.

You did a live session online last year, how was that for you and you have plans for anymore?
I did yeah it was great, the support from everyone was great. Its still not quite the same as playing live with people directly in front of you though and I think music fans would say the same. Theres not that electric buzz in the atmosphere and that pre and post show feeling. But its was cool to do and I would definitely do them again.

Having the support of Jake Bugg, Blossoms and Tom Walker to name a few, would you like to release any music or write with them?
Ive been very blessed to tour with some incredible artists like those guys above. I think what Jake does musically is brilliant and im a huge fan. It would certainly be fun to write something with him.

As a songwriter your self what songwriters do you look up to?
There are so many. One of my favourite albums is Tapestry by Carole King and I think that her songwriting ability is next level, her songs say so much but with the knack of simplicity. I love a lot of the songwriters that wrote those mega soul tunes in the 60s too like Holland Dozier Holland and people like Ivy Jo Hunter who wrote songs like Dancing in the street. Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Nile Rodgers too the way those guys wrote those soul pop bangers but with so much depth and emotions is genius.

Would you like appear on a show like Songland that works with songwriters?
Ive never heard of songland, sorry! But ive just looked it up haha ive got nothing against them shows and im sure they bring a lot of entertainment to people but they are just not for me to be honest. But don’t get me wrong ive caught myself watching clips of X factors funny moments on youtube a few times haha!

Do you have any plans to tour when it is safe to do so? What venues are you looking forward to getting out and performing at?
Yes most definitely im just so eager to play live again! And like everyone in the world I just want to experience live music again. So I really do hope that soon I can be back on tour. Touring is one of my favourite things in life so to not have been able to do it for almost 12 months has been tough! But it’ll be back and we can all sing and dance together again as soon as its safe! I think any where at the moment haha I’ll play anything just to play live again but there really are some beautiful venues in the UK that id love to go back to like the London Palladium its just crazy to think of them empty for so long.

What are your plans for 2021?
I think continue through in a hopeful manner, write more music maybe another album and put that out into the world or some singles. And just get through this pandemic and if its possible I would love to make some plans to tour and play some shows!

Any final messages?
Stay safe everyone, we will get through this and share music in the same rooms again. Massive respect and love the NHS and all the keywords too for all the work they are doing and for keeping us safe. And thank you so much for having me on this interview, appreciate it.
