Music Promotions spoke to ‘Tide Lines’ about supporting Deacon Blue at Edinburgh Castle, Their new single ‘River In The Night’ Touring in October and much more.
1. How was supporting Deacon Blue at Edinburgh Castle?
It was unforgettable. Great venue, great crowd, and we were able to stick around and hear Deacon Blue’s set which was a bonus because we’re all big fans.
2. Is that your biggest crowd performing in front of so far?
It was certainly among our biggest crowds but we’ve been lucky enough to play to some similarly large festival audiences.
3. What was it like to be there performing at the castle?
It was really unforgettable. Not only is it clearly one of the most iconic venues in Scotland but it was an absolutely scorching hot day! The crowd were incredibly supportive considering most of them were obviously waiting to hear Deacon Blue so there was a really nice atmosphere throughout the night. A few of our fans turned up to hear us too which was lovely.
4. Your new single Rivers In The Light, what is the story behind it?
There isn’t a particular story, as such, but it came to me when I was spending time back home in the Highlands during lockdown. Despite all the awful things happening around the globe, it felt almost like my world had been put on pause and I was back in the peaceful landscape I’d been brought up in – having lived in the frantic city for the previous ten years. It was a chance to recharge and reflect so I think that sense of retrospective calmness sort of defines the song.
5. Is there a Ep or album to follow?
We have a few plans in the pipeline for some new material…
6. You on tour in October and November, what can we expect from your live shows?
We just absolutely love playing live and have really missed it for the majority of the last two years. So our live shows this year have probably been full of a lot of previously pent up energy and excitement. We’ve always relished getting onstage and playing together but I think we’re appreciating it more than ever now.
7. Where are you looking forward to performing the most?
The great thing about our upcoming “Town Hall Tour” in Scotland and the National Lottery Revive Live Tour in England is that they are lovely opportunities to play in places slightly off the beaten track that we’ve never played before. Rather than having a particular venue or town we’re looking forward to the most, I think we’re just excited to see loads of new places. Quite often on those tours, the best shows are the ones you least expect.
8. Where have been some of your most memorable place you have performed?
Well we’ve already mentioned Edinburgh Castle but other iconic Scottish Venues like the Barrowlands, the O2 Academy, and the Kelvingrove Bandstand in Glasgow have been pretty amazing places to play. We’ve had some great gigs in venues down South from the likes of the Cluny in Newcastle to the Scala in London. And some of our trips over to Europe have been really memorable: Lorient festival in France and Tønder festival in Denmark spring to mind.
9. What makes Tidelines stand out from other bands?
Our sound has a pretty wide variety of influences (from rock, to pop, to electronic music) and, in amongst it all, we’re grateful to come from a pretty unique part of the world with a rich musical heritage which is always present in the background on some level.
10. Who inspired you all musically?
Our early influences were pretty eclectic. I think we all naturally listened to what our parents and siblings were listening to as we grew up. Everything from classic Rock, 80’s, 90’s and more traditional music. Then probably, throughout our school days, we all had very different tastes – from harder rock through to electronic music and the chart music of the day. A fairly common theme for all four of us when it comes to early influences is actually the more traditional music of Scotland. I think all these aforementioned early influences can be heard in the cumulative sound we create today.
11. Final messages? Where can we find you on social media?
You’ll find us on all social media platforms so I suppose my final message would be – come and check us out and I hope you enjoy what you hear!
