HOSTED BY DECENTRALAND, THE BLOCKCHAIN-BASED VIRTUAL SOCIAL WORLD
Nina Nesbitt is confirmed to play The Metaverse Festival, which begins this Thursday, October 21st. The event is the world’s first ever multi-day music festival to be held in the metaverse, and will be hosted by Decentraland, the blockchain-based virtual world. The metaverse is a series of virtual social digital environments which exist in parallel to our physical world, and expands it to a near limitless potential of future possibilities. Nina is one of the leading names to be confirmed for The Metaverse Festival. The eclectic line-up also includes big names as varied as deadmau5, Paris Hilton and 3LAU. As well as an international array of artists, The Metaverse Festival features core festival elements such as games, merch stands, a VIP lounge, chill-out zones and, of course, portable toilets. The entire event is based around the theme of evolution: over the course of its four days, the festival’s visual aesthetic will transform from Water on its opening day to Earth, Space, and finally Metaverse on its final day. She will play the Evolution Stage, the festival’s main stage, at 12am UTC (1am BST), this Friday, October 22nd. Just as attendees are represented by an avatar, so too are the artists. Nina’s custom-designed avatar will be wearing digital sneakers designed by FEWOCiOUS, the 18-year-old rising star of the digital art world. His recent work, Nice to meet you, I’m Mr. MiSUNDERSTOOD, a life-sized physical sculpture with a paired NFT of the Mr. MiSUNDERSTOOD origins story, was sold by Sotheby’s at auction for a staggering £2.1 million. Nina shared her thoughts on the event in an interview with Coindesk. She commented: “I’m not able to tour internationally at the moment, and it made me think of other ways I can perform and connect with my fan base. I thought this was a really interesting way and something that’s quite new and has not been done that much before in the pop world so I wanted to give it a try. “It was really strange recording it, to try to have the energy of being on stage and doing all the movement in the body because you have to exaggerate everything. But I have always wanted to be turned into a real-life Sim, so this has been a really cool experience.” Nina’s 2019 album, ‘The Sun Will Come Up, The Seasons Will Change’, elevated her to a new status as one one of Spotify’s Top 500 artists in the world, with over half a billion streams worldwide, while her music has featured on over a thousand Spotify playlists. Her growing global reputation was further emphasised when she was named by Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech for the Woman of the Decade Award at Billboard’s Women in Music event. Her collaborations to date have included Deacon (‘Long Run’), NOTD (‘Cry Dancing’) and R3HAB (‘Family Values’); a collaboration with singer-songwriters Sasha Sloan and Charlotte Lawrence for ‘Psychopath’, a Spotify female exclusive single; and with global stars Jonas Blue (‘Desperate’) and Sigala (‘Somebody’). A particular highlight was teaming up with Ranji and WHITENO1SE. The duo had remixed ‘The Moments I’m Missing’ and dropped it at Ultra Music Festival, the reaction being so big that Nina subsequently joined them at a show in Mexico City in front of 20,000 people. Nina started 2021 by performing as a special guest at Liam Payne’s livestream event ‘LP Show Act 4’. In addition to her own set, she also joined him for the duet ‘For You’. Her own music release this year include ‘Summer Fling’, which reached #1 on TikTok UK’s Hot 50, and her current single ‘Life’s A Bitch’ which is an ‘80s inspired, post-2020, driving-your-car-through-a tunnel-at-night song. Nina wrote ‘Life’s A Bitch’ with the Swedish production duo Jack & Coke (Charli XCX, Carly Rae Jepson, Tove Lo and Astrid S).
