K-pop meets Brit-pop artist Shao Hao, arrives with his brand new feel-good single ‘Thursday’. Providing a taste of his EP, which is set to drop this Spring, ‘Thursday’ is a bright, euphoric, and instantly addictive track that will have you foot tapping from the get-go.
The song fuses K-pop’s vibrant melody and forward-thinking with hints of 80s Brit-pop sound and instrumentation. Sparkling synths and propulsive beats drive a chorus built to linger, while the lyrics bottle the excitement and vulnerability of falling for someone new, as Shao Hao sings ‘Maybe, I could be your Mr. Right / we could fall in love Thursday night’. Bright, energising, and effortlessly catchy, this song feels like a late-night confession wrapped in neon.
The vibrant throwback video (scheduled for release at 6pm GMT on 29th January) is set within a vintage TV dating show, following a love quest through Shao Hao’s multiple alter egos, with a perfect nod to retro colour palettes, nostalgic fashion, and a special appearance by drag icon Bitchtrice.
Speaking on the single, Shao Hao says: “‘Thursday’ reflects a new way of loving, one that’s more honest, playful, and unafraid of being seen. I drew heavily from my own dating experiences, especially the different sides of myself that surface when I start falling for someone. In the music video, I play three different personalities in a fictional retro dating show called Thursday Night. Two sit at opposite extremes – painfully shy and overly confident – and ultimately, the girl falls for the version that’s more balanced and real. The show is hosted by a drag queen, played by Bitchtrice, which felt important to me as a celebration of self-expression, freedom, and embracing who you truly are. The song was written and produced with a team from BLACKPINK’s label YG, recorded in Seoul, and I even took K-pop performance classes there to fully prepare for this release.”
