Seeb’s current single ‘Submarine’ proved to be an inspiring international collaboration. The hugely popular dance-pop duo teamed up with rising production team SUPER-Hi and the exemplary vocal talent BANNERS to create a big anthem powered by nostalgia for a love that never had the chance to flourish. So when their thoughts turned to making a video for the track, they knew it had to be just as impactful as the video itself.

The result is the new ‘Submarine’ video which is out now, a hybrid of innovative AI video production and emotional storytelling. Watch it HERE.

The video’s narrative plays upon the themes of memory, nostalgia and long-lost love which are central to the song. A man in his seventies lives a solitary existence by the coast, with only his dog for company. But when night falls, his dreams take him back some fifty-plus years ago as he remembers a fleeting romance that could have been more.

The aesthetic behind the video was conceptualised by Seeb and then realised by the Norwegian video production, animation and AI specialists Brusjan. The first stage in its production was to harness the power of ChatGPT to develop the script and to utilise Stable Diffusion’s text-to-image and image-to-image functions to subsequently layer and animate in Adobe After Effects. The second stage – to bring the story’s central character to life – was more challenging. They recruited an actor who filmed all of the scenes on a green screen, and that footage was used to train his AI representative in the video. The results were synchronised with the music, and were developed using Blender as well as a further edit using Stable Diffusion.

Øivind Bolstad  (MD at Brusjan) says, “Seeb approached us with an inspiring vision for their music video: a retro, hand-drawn animated style, accompanied by a captivating story outline. Recognizing the potential for innovation, we suggested incorporating AI as the foundation for this creative endeavour. After weeks of diligent work and experimentation with a variety of groundbreaking tools, we completed the video. By wholeheartedly embracing AI as a collaborative partner, we have pushed the boundaries of creativity and artistic possibilities.”

The three artists behind Submarine share a huge following of 21 million monthly listeners at Spotify.

Consisting of Simen Eriksud and Espen Berg, Norwegian duo Seeb are one of dance music’s highest profile success stories. The combination of their work with leading artists Taylor SwiftEd SheeranColdplay and Mike Posner and their own projects such as their debut album ‘Sad In Scandinavia’ has led to more than 4 billion streams to date on Spotify alone.

Since emerging in 2015, BANNERS’ stunning voice and exquisite songcraft delivers music which is both timeless and immensely personal. BANNERS’ biggest moment so far is ‘Someone Like You’, but similar qualities are rich throughout the rest of his work, including his recent EP ‘I Wish I Was Flawless, I’m Not’, with his releases so far exceeding 1.5 billion streams.

British duo SUPER-Hi made their name as producers and songwriters for a succession of big names including Louis Tomlinson, James Arthur and Sam Ryder, but the international success of ‘Following The Sun’ showed that their magic touch extended to their own material too. That track remained in the spotlight with a succession of remixes, and they followed up with last year’s ‘Told You So’.
