You’ve just announced your UK tour for June, do you already have an idea
of your songs setlist?

We have a lot in store this year as far as content goes so we don’t have anything
set in stone for a set list but we definitely have the MUSTS in there. The first
single, Hate Me More, drops 1/27 this year which kicks off the next project which
just so happens to drop before the UK tour. So those songs will be added to the
set for sure.

Where are you most excited to play when you come over?
It’s so hard to pick when it comes to the UK. This is my 3rd time touring the UK
and each place has a special spot in my heart. But this time, I’d have to say
Edinburgh simply for the venue. It’s at The Caves! It looks like something out of
Harry Potter and if you dont know anything about me, I LOVE HARRY POTTER!
Like… have a Snitch tattoo on my hand kind of love. So i’m excited to get in there
and make a little magic 😉

Have you any plans for C2C this year?
I’ve been working on this tour for several months now so C2C wasn’t in the cards
this year. I’d love to be a part of it in the future, but for now, I love being able to
come and play multiple spots and give my audience more of a personalized
show.

Your music has so much feeling and emotion behind the lyrics, have you
ever found it difficult to finish a song that you had to leave it and come
back to it later?

There’s been several songs I’ve had to come back to and finish up. I usually find
the choruses always write themselves and once I have the established I can set
the stage for the song with the first verse. It’s the second verse that gets tricky for
me but that’s because it’s kind of a blank page. The second verse can be so
many things, which I love. I find the 2nd verse is where I can be the most
descriptive / authentic to my own emotions. I actually wrote my song, “One
Percent” on a train from Norwich back to London and didn’t finish the 2nd verse
til weeks later.

What have been your easiest and hardest songs to write?

I co-wrote “Break It” with Walker Hayes and Emily Falvey and that had to be one
of the best writes. Obviously, those 2 humans are amazing and it’s probably why
it went so smoothly, but I came in with a bit of the first verse, chorus melody, and
few ideas already down but I found myself explaining the story to Walker and
Emily and them both just go into “yup, got it, how bout this” mode and it just
spilled out. As far as the hardest song goes, I can’t really recall. I feel that if it’s a
hard song to write then it’s not a good song. Every song I’ve written or even just
demoed, I find to be exciting and worth releasing. There’s rarely been a write
where I’ve left and hadn’t felt like “shit, that was hard.” Unless you mean in “hard”
as in “emotionally”, if so, then it’d be “She’s Sorry” which isn’t out anymore but
the video is still on YouTube.

How long do you spend writing and recording?
As long as it takes lol.

Do you have a particular favorite song to perform live?
At the moment it’s my track off my latest album, “Kiss Him”. It’s just a bop! The
bass, the strings, and vibe?? It just makes you want to dance and move and I
can’t help but Michael Jackson all over the stage when I sing it.

Your album ‘Canaan Cox the directors cut’ came out in December (for me
personally ‘One Percent’) stands out love it. The whole album that said is
amazing. Can you talk us though the tracks and your inspiration behind the
album?

That whole album is just me in a nut shell. I feel there’s a lot of different “feels” in
each track. Of course I have MY sound and my brand. But this album has a bit of
every little part of me. As You Leave, Wish, JOY, Kiss Him are all on brand with
the pop side of things I love and feel but then you have One Percent which brings
out my Musical Theatre degree background and just thrives off of the emotion
from the piano and string arrangement. Then you have Break It which is heavily
rooted in country which is what I was brought up on and always love.

As a songwriter have you or would you write for other artists?
OMG totally! I think that’s solely why I want a publishing deal. The ability to go in
to a write and write for other artists, not to mention other genres??? I’d love it!
There are times in my own writes that I come out of and think “this song isn’t for
me” not in a bad way but meaning it’d suit someone else better.

What other songwriters and musicians inspire you?
I’m a performer through and through. For the longest time I didn’t even introduce
myself as an artists or a songwriter, i’d say “I’m an entertainer”… which I know
makes me sound like a stripper, but that’s what I felt. I love watching people be
totally immersed in their craft. Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake!
And that doesn’t mean you have to be moon walking for me to be inspired but I
get inspired or feeling excited, I want to move. I find that in my writes or working
in the studio on my own music I pace from the vocal booth to the front door if I
ever have to explain arrangements or instrumentations. I like to move.

What music are you streaming right now?
Lately I’ve had Ben Platt’s new album on repeat along side some modern folk
albums from Trampled By Turtles and Nora Brown.

Plans and goals for 2023?
Play more original shows. Get on an opener slot for some bigger acts. Sell out
UK Tour. Release music. Be the best husband and dad I can be.
