Final Cut Podcast interview Dean Connelly

Music Promotions caught up with three podcasters taking the podcast airwaves by storm with their creative, unique, connection and views on the latest movies, Tv and wrestling news with their sister podcaster Bodyslams And Dropkicks.

Music Promotions meets Final Cut Podcaster Dean Connelly.

How did you begin Podcasting?

D: Well long story short, it was the pandemic i was already in a monthly reviewing segment with another podcast, we had expanded the podcast and at some point we and them went our separate ways, a-lot of it comes down to our producer, she encouraged me to start interviewing and do a podcast so the kudos and praise go to her.

Who has been your favourite actor or wrestler to interview?

D: To be honest all of them bar 1. everyone bar that one person has been a joy to interview. some of them treat interviews like a memoir of their life which is better then an interview!!

Best Podcasting moment?

D:I have alot but probably the most significant one was when we got Daniel Nelson Who played Kabal in 2021’s Mortal Kombat. This was the first I’ll say mainstream movie interview I got and also showed me that there is no limit to the sky above me. plus he got up i think it was 7am in Australia to do it so dedication is its own reward and thank you Daniel so much 🙂

Most embarrassing podcast on air moment?

D:For me the blooper reel which is mainly podcasters block, forgetting which podcast we’re on and bloopering in front of guests. bloopering in front of co-hosts is easy enough

Describe Final cuts podcast?

D:It’s 3 guys talking about the entertainment world and on the odd occasion the gaming world.

Describe Bodyslams and Dropkicks?

D:A wrestling podcast where 3 guys have a laugh and we have a laugh mainly at Nathans impression of HHH and Vince McMahon.

What makes your podcasts different from other podcasts?

D:That is a good question, I like to think my podcast has a unique insight into the people because we 3 are from the people, so with all due respect to all the critics and famous people who think they know best, they don’t, I’d like to think our unique insight means our advice, reviews etc make us more reliable. once during a screening of Fast 6 in Sheffield, i once saw a guy when Owen Shaw kidnaps Mia and Brian comes to the realisation he goes for him. a guy stood up and shouted ‘Kick his f**king ass.’ that is something a critic wont tell you.

Question for Dean- What is your long term goal for the podcast? Where does your vision come from?

firstly my long term goal is to be a fully paid podcaster with interviews by actors, singers, entertainers etc. it took me a long time to find something I’m truly passionate about and I’m good at. i fully intend to do that to the best of my ability and life’s ability.

secondly, i like to think my vision comes from my love of movies, my wanting to expand my knowledge and seeing just if my quizzes that i do are as legendary as i think they can be in my head. my ultimate vision is to have a different form of media where those who don’t have a start in life then say any actors, actresses or singers who are born into showbiz can show how good they are. there is always another Chris Nolan or Sam Raimi or Jordan Peele to be discovered.

Favourite movie genres? Any as long as they are worth watching.

Best movie you have seen in the last year?

D:That is abit hard to answer cause I’m more of a man who doesn’t have a favourite but last year, Army of the Dead was a big favourite, tv wise The Boys, season 3 is getting seriously interesting, big fan of the Favreau/Filoni verse, marvel tv shows. i do still watch friends which is a timeless classic.

Over hyped movie franchise?

D:JJ Abrams’s star wars and Star Trek movies, i know that’s 2, he’s a great filmmaker i wont deny that but if like me you know the franchises and i do. then you will know

Star wars 7 was just a newer and shoddier A New Hope,

8 was trying to be The Empire Strikes Back but failed miserably and even it didn’t know what it was trying to be

9 trying to be Return of the Jedi but it was awful and confusing at the same time and actually made Phantom Menace look like a timeless classic

His star trek movies

1 was a good start, but all he proved is that Pine, Quinto, Pegg etc etc cannot fill the shoes of their predecessors (Karl Urban as Bones was the only one who gets any form of approval.)

2 was Wrath of Khan only worse and Benedict Cumberbatch trying to play a role too iconic to really try to do

3 was just a worse Search for spock hell they even blow up the Enterprise in that movie just like in Search for Spock. not even Idris Elba could save it.

Under hyped franchise?

D:Gareth Evans’s Raid Franchise, its low budget, its martial arts sequences are some of the best there is, the gore would make young people leave the room and the cast have since gone onto bigger things. Joe Taslim who plays Jaka is Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat, Iko Uwais has starred in alot of movies not to mention the upcoming Expendables 4 and Ray Sahetapy is one of the most underrated villians in movie history.

Who would be your top 5 movie actors/directors and wrestlers you would love on the podcast?

D:The Nolan family, (they’re family they do movies together so they count as 1.) Hans Zimmer, Kevin Feige, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill.

Favourite thing about your co hosts?

D:Nathan is just a hoot to work with, he always been the humour, he never fails to bring to tears to my eyes when i laugh and his voices are just brilliant and adds a different dimension to our podcasts

Fraser i think with Fraser his knowledge of comic books in a time when there is a new comic book movie or tv series out every month is irreplaceable, he’s always the first to share his knowledge. I cant imagine this podcast without either of them.

Tell us one thing about your co hosts no on else knows?

D:Nathan is nearly as good as me with difficult quiz questions

Fraser would sell his soul if WWE would make great shows.

What does this podcast mean to you?

D:It’s my legacy, if i have to have a legacy behind, i don’t think it would be cause I’m a caring guy, it wouldn’t be that I’m a great boss, it would be because my podcast has helped, enlightened, entertained and made someone’s day. people always ask what would be the one thing you want to be remembered for, the answer would be my podcast.

Music Promotions The truth quiz Any question refusals will lead in an on air forfeit chosen by the producer.

1. You have to choose between Michelle Williams and Anna Kendrick for the role who do you pick?

D:Michelle Williams i do love Anna Kendrick i think she is perfection personified but Michelle Williams is an actress who I feel is barely reaching the potential of what she is capable of, which i for one would love to see.

2. Same question, Tom Hardy and Jason Statham

.

D:Tom Hardy, Jason Statham can only do action, Tom Hardy can do anything.

3. Best Horror writer

D:Jordan Peele, the guy has turned horror upside down and inside out, Get Out is a classic.

4. Best director and producer

D:James Cameron and Gale Ann Hurd i will say this the only way i know how.

James has directed Terminator, T-2, True Lies, The Abyss, Aliens, Avatar. all great movies

.

D:Seth Rogen which results in a Drew Barrymore style execution for Sandler’s character

8. Movies your looking forward to this year

All the Marvel movies, Bullet Train and Joey King’s the Princess which isn’t as shabby as you might think.

9. Who’d win between Undertaker and Shawn Michaels?

Nathan at this point will say Shawn, Fraser will say Kenny Omega and I’ll say Taker. the thing is Taker has already beaten Shawn and vice versa but nowadays and if we’re going on right now, Shawn would. it breaks my heart to say that.

10. Watch again and switch of watching between Kenny Omega and Ruby Soho?

D:If you mean watch again Ruby Soho’s exchange with Britt Baker D.M.D and Kenny losing all of his World title belts, those are watch agains. rest of the time, I’d switch off

11. Disney Or Netflix

D:Disney. it has the history, the franchises, old and new content. Netflix went from a powerhouse to being bottom of the streaming food chain.

12. Margot Robbie or Kayley Cuoco for Harley Quinn?

D:Margot Robbie, main reason she uses Harley’s Brooklyn accent, that is a major selling point.

13. Best voice over actor

D:Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill you cannot have one without the other. he’s the best Batman actor and he’s the best Joker. end of

14. Best onscreen partnership in a movie or tv series?

D:Martin Lawrence and Will Smith Bad Boys

15. Favourite John Cena movie?

D:Fast 9, the only 1 i can tolerate him in.

D:Fast 9 movies soon to be 10. Longest Ride is a good movie but it’s not the Choice.

17. Work with your favourite director or take $50,000 to never work with any one in film for 10 years.

D:Considering Chris Nolan could make me and that & much more Favourite Director.

18. What movie would you like to see taken to the stage?

D:Joey King’s The Princess

19. Best animation?

D:Original Space Jam

20. Your recommendations

Anything James Cameron bar Titanic and his b movie career. Horror anything by Sam Raimi but Fade Alverez’s library is a must. anything by Nicolas Sparks, Zac Snyder, MCU, any Batman Animated series or Mask of the Phantasm. The only movie where Bruce questions staying on as Batman and he apologises to his parents grave.
