“Overflowing with raw emotion and poignant lyrics.” – Wonderland

“Soulful warmth and dynamic vocals from a new Liverpool one to watch.” – This Feeling

Sam Olyott’s debut single ‘Cold Toast’ proved to be the kind of song that compels you to listen to the very end. Inspiring positive comparisons to the likes of Sam Fender, Paolo Nutini, and Tom Grennan, the song demonstrated Sam’s immense ability for excelling at music’s most essential elements: soulful vocals, confessional lyricism and timeless melody.

Now Sam shares his follow-up single ‘On Your Own’, which serves as a thematic sequel to his debut single. The relationship is over and there’s no going back, but the resulting pain is at its peak. In time the anger will pass, but right now the feeling and the vitriol in Sam’s commanding voice is unmistakable. Yet he’s also brave enough to open those emotions to the world at large, the simple piano accompaniment truly complementing his sorrow.  LISTEN HERE. Watch the lyric video HERE.

Sam says, “‘On Your Own’ is my most vulnerable song to date, it’s the ending to a situation that was controlling my life for the longest time. This song feels like the perfect ending to that story.”

Sam created ‘On Your Own’ with the same team as ‘Cold Toast’. He wrote both songs with Mark Vallance (Tom Walker, Lost Frequencies) and Teddy Gristle, who also produced the track.

Sometimes a world class talent emerges in unexpected circumstances, and that’s particularly true of 21-year-old Sam’s story. He first nurtured his talents in the challenging environment of busking in Liverpool city centre when he was a teenager – an experience which holds him in good stead today, as evidenced by his recent ‘Cold Toast’ acoustic video which was filmed in the kitchen of 300 Acre Studios.

Back then Sam was just 14. Helped by his dad, their Saturday routine went something like this: get up around 5am, claim the best busking spot in town by 6am, and then wait around, sometimes sheltering from biblical rain, other times in sweltering heat, until the first trickle of shoppers developed into a full-on morning rush. It’s a tough context to shine in, but Sam grew in confidence until his voice and charisma stopped shoppers in their tracks. Eventually he developed a regular audience, resulting in an invite to perform at Liverpool FC, over 1.2 million views of his performances on YouTube, and now the chance to prove that he’s an essential artist in his own right.
