Wild Fire Interview Meet Houston, Texas newest pop duo Wild Fire as they get ready for the release of their new single ’Damaged’ in September, find their previous releases on all streaming platforms.Wild Fire recently spoke to Music Promotions about their music, song writing, keeping busy during the current pandemic and much more.You can find Wild Fire on social media links at the bottom of this interview.
For anyone who doesn’t know you, could tell us more about wildfire?
We are a country pop duo from Houston, Texas. We are both sisters. We’ve been doing this for about four and a half years now. We love to perform and release music, be vulnerable with our music and connect with our fans. It’s such an amazing feeling!
Being sisters do you feel better performing together as a duo, is there less pressure doing this together?
We really prefer pursuing music together whether it isinterviews like this, songwriting, performing, recording etc.. It’s very encouraging to have my best friend by my side. Your sister is always your best friend. I would feel a lot more nervous and less confident in myself without her. We constantly encourage and lift each other up. We both definitely motivate each other and boost each other’s confidence. I really couldn’t see myself doing it without her.
How did you first begin singing?
We started with musical theatre at a very early age, five and seven. We would always land the singing parts and really enjoyed that aspect of music theatre. When we began writing and recording and were kind of like solo artists which is weird to say. Soon after that we entered a singing competition put on by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo called “Rodeo Rockstar.” This event is a huge thing in Houston. We ended up getting on the news and making it all the way to the semi-finals. After that experience our voice teacher paired us together and from there we began our duo. Now, about four and a half years later, we have really vibed together. We really have a good time and get along super well so it’s the perfect outcome.
Rolling with the stones received huge support on Spotify and iTunes US top 100 charts playlist, how was it for you hearing that response to your music? (Love the song :))
It’s so rewarding when a song does that well. I think the reason our songs resonate with people is because they are authentic, and come from personal experiences and observations. To see other people connect with that in such a great way is very encouraging and makes all the hard work very much worth it.
The lyrics to your songs are very honest and very refreshing, where does your inspiration come from when you’re writing a song?
When we write a song, it definitely comes from a personal experience, whether it is something we have been through ourselves or what we have seen someone else go through. Weare young so you would think we don’t have much to write about, but I feel like we’ve gone through a lot. I mean at 15and 17 years of age we have quite a bit of material to write about. There are millions of teens that share similar experiences, and even adults alike. I think people relate so much because it is vulnerable and it’s real.
How long do you spend when you’re writing and recording?
It takes us anywhere from 30 minutes to four hours when writing a song. It really just depends. I think when you’re writing with someone you really vibe with you can get the song done a lot faster because you just connect well with the cowriter. If you can connect with the cowriter on the topic that you’re writing about, that’s even better. The ideas just start flowing.
Recording songs always takes a very long time. I would say anywhere from four to six hours for vocals alone. But it’s so, so rewarding to get that finished product.
As songwriters would you be interested in reaching out with your music on a show like Songland?
Of course! That would be such a dream come true! I love that show. I think there’s so many talented artists that have their music on that show and that is something we definitely look forward to doing in the future.
What artists inspire both of you, whether it be together or be individually
I definitely get a lot of writing inspiration from Olivia Bryan and Sasha Sloan and that’s kind of the sound our music progresses towards each day. With the music that I’m listening to, I think that affects the direction we want to go in with our music. To be authentic, we have to pursue the sound we desire. Our songs will change a lot throughout the years, but we’re definitely going towards just producing what we love, regardless of genre labels. I like the Wallows they are avery cool pop rock band and we’re kind of going in that direction these days, staying in pop country and branching out into different sub genres. I think it’s really interesting and it really depends on the music that we’re listening to at the time. I love Clara. I think she’s true to herself and that really inspires me to be vulnerable in my writing. I would definitely say Wallows and Dayglow have really inspired me.
What music are you both currently streaming right now?
Currently I’m streaming a lot of different artists. I actually make monthly playlists, which I think is really fun because I get to listen to new music that I love every month. I’ve been listening to a lot of rock lately: Train, Bastille and Third Eye Blind. I really love these bands. I also love Morgan Wallen,I’ve been listening to him a lot lately, but yeah, I like various genres so I can branch out and let it influence our music. The thing about us is we don’t stick to one genre, especially when we stream music. I think in our production is influenced this way as well. There are multiple influences that you can hear when you listen to a finished Wild Fire song. I think that’s very important to be versatile and be open to different genres.
You’ve been described as a country pop duo would you agree with that or would you describe your music differently?
We get compared to a lot of different artists, which as musicians I feel inspired by the other artists. I wouldn’t directly compare our music to any of them but I definitely think we are in the pop country genre, leaning a little more towards pop. However, with this new music that we’re currently creating we are definitely branching out into different genres to feed our passions with what we love best. I think it’s going to be really interesting to see how that turns out and how we progress over this time. I mean right now I’d definitely say pop country is very accurate.
That is the genre that most of our music has been in, but I think as artists we’re growing every day to include elements of other genres such as pop rock, jazz, etc.. I believe this really helps us grow as artists.
What is the story behind your new single Damaged (But We Still Work)?
This new single is coming out September 4th. We are very excited about it! I came home one day and I felt like a lot of people feel. I don’t want to say too much about the song, but it’s basically a song about feeling kind of insecure all the time. It really goes deep into our personal feelings and what we’ve dealt with growing up as teens in a society with social media, beauty standards, body image standards etc.. We think it’s going to be a great song that everyone can relate to. There aretwo versions coming out. We can’t wait for everyone to hear it!
Will you be releasing an EP OR full length cd in the future?
With the songs that we’ve been currently releasing, we are going to make them into an EP which will be available for pre-order later this year or early next year. Our fans have been asking for this regularly. I think people really get excited to have an EP at their fingertips with liner notes and our autographs on them. It’s a collection of music from a place in time where we felt a certain way and I think that really connects with people.
Do you have plans to tour the UK (In safer times)
We honestly would love to travel anywhere. Touring in Europe would be a dream. There are so many people in Europe that have a really good taste in music and are very educated on it. We would love to reach them and let them discover us. Many have already, but being there in person would be much better. That would be so exciting. Everythingis kind of up in the air with this pandemic, so we don’t have any plans currently. However we’re definitely working towards getting a tour going or even just coming over there to travel and play a couple of shows. Something that really excites me about the UK is that I think they have a very, very deep appreciation for music and the artistry behind it. So I think being able to tour there would really help us get more intouch with the great people of the UK.
How have you been keeping busy during the current pandemic?
During this pandemic, we have been writing a lot of music and recording some music behind the scenes as safely as possible. But as far as quarantining, we’ve been under quarantine a while now here in Texas. It was lifted briefly, but we’re back in it these days because it got really bad here. We’ve been working out. We love to work out at home. We can’t work out at the gym right now because most gyms areclosed. I’ve been reading, getting more into yoga and getting more in touch with myself. And we actually got a puppy. She’s a little German Shepherd named Jazzy and we’re so excited to have her in our family! It’s been a great journey watching her grow up within the past two weeks. It’s insane how fast these dogs grow up. She’s definitely been keeping us busy.
