MAHMOOD & BLANCO win the 72nd edition of the Sanremo Festival with BRIVIDI.
Presented on the most prestigious stage in Italy with an extraordinary performance, the song is the most streamed track ever on Spotify with 3,586,498 streams in just 24 hours, a new record that is added to the highest debut of all time for an Italian song: # 5 in the global chart of the platform (now confirming Top10, #6). The track has also debuted #1 on all Italian digital platforms and #1 in the FIMI / GfK single chart. To these results we must add more than 14 million views combined, made by the official video clip and the video clip of the performance at the Sanremo Festival (# 1 and # 2 in YouTube trends) and 19 NMFs reached on Spotify. By winning Sanremo, “Brividi” has become the Italian song to compete at 2022 EUROVISION, in Turin this year.
Written by MAHMOOD and BLANCO and composed with Michelangelo, also producer of the track, Brividi is a romantic ballad with a modern touch where voices and points of view of the two artists, despite 10 years age difference, intertwine in perfect harmony to tell how the fear of being inadequate, when it comes to love, belongs to everyone. Two apparently distant worlds but linked by the dynamic and emotional strength of their writing, in which both artists describe love from two different, complementary views. On the one hand a more disillusioned vision, sung with greater awareness by MAHMOOD, on the other the impulsiveness and genuineness of BLANCO, two different intensities that manage to tell a world of feelings without trivializing it.
The video, shot in Amsterdam and directed by Attilio Cusani, translates into frames the two stories with real intensity. The main characters alternate as well as the scenarios that recreate the idea of freedom: to ride on diamond bikes made for them with Swarovski crystals, aiming for the sky.
MAHMOOD: In “Brividi” two boys, belonging to two different generations, love with the same enthusiasm, inadequacy, and the fear of making mistakes, unable to express feelings – with the desire to love in total freedom, giving ourselves to others. The romantic vision (“I dreamed of flying with you / On a diamond bike”) and the more concrete and passionate one (“you, who stain the bed with wine / you, who bite my skin”) of love are united from the desire to live a pure and all-encompassing feeling, breaking down barriers, in complete freedom.
BLANCO: “Brividi” represents all those moments where emotions reveal us for what we really are, they lay us bare. The song tells of a state of mind that I can only express by singing and screaming. It is a crossing of lives: mine, which has a point in common with Mahmood’s and in a certain way with everyone’s, because at any age, feelings – especially love – make us fragile and happy at the same time.
