Teddy Failure have hit 20 million streams over the course of just four tracks, with their recent single ‘Pure’ (featuring ELIO) landing tastemaker tips from The Line of Best Fit and DIY to add to their previous extensive airplay in Sweden, Norway and Germany. Now the duo – Teo Runsiö and Frans Torell – share their brand new single ‘Stoner’, together with its official video. LISTEN HERE / WATCH THE VIDEO HERE. Given its title, it’s only natural that ‘Stoner’ is even more laid-back than Teddy Failure’s previous releases. It’s a quietly captivating acoustic groove in which the duo’s two-part vocals celebrate the simple joy of kicking back and letting the day drift away escaping everyday life. That said, it could also be interpreted as a cautionary tale. Like much of Teddy Failure’s writing to date, ‘Stoner’ feels like a coming-of-age movie in the form of a song. Teddy Failure commented, “‘Stoner’ is about escaping from all the expectations everyday life puts on you – to just do whatever u want and not care about what other people think”. ‘Stoner’ was produced by Teddy Failure, and co-written by the duo with Kristen Carpenter (Jasmine Thompson, Winona Oak) and Marcus White (Seinabo Sey, Anna of the North). The official video for ‘Stoner’ depicts the song’s story in reverse. Instead of a life-long stoner who never really grows up, it depicts a boy who is thrust into adult life and the corporate world years before he is ready. His discomfort at the situation is only expressed by his blank expression. Meanwhile, Teddy Failure are shown busking outside a fast food restaurant in scenes that recall Jay and Silent Bob from Kevin Smith’s cult slacker comedy ‘Clerks’. The video’s creative concept was by Teddy Failure, and it was directed by William Forslund. Watch HERE. Teddy Failure said, “The ‘Stoner’ video aims to show how you can feel misplaced in everyday life, sometimes wishing you could do and be something else.” Long before they formed Teddy Failure, Teo and Frans were already immersed in Stockholm’s music scene. Frans played in various bands, while Teo was working in the studio with a pre-breakthrough Yung Lean. Joining forces under the name TeoFrans, they became go-to producers for a new wave of contemporary Swedish artists before their reputation went international, collaborating with Bülow, Ritt Momney, DJDS, Hannes. Both Teo and Frans studied at the same arts school, with Teo focusing on classical guitar as Frans specialising in jazz bass. But it was early 2010s-era hip-hip they truly bonded over, especially Tyler, the Creator. Now taking control over all aspects of Teddy Failure’s creative output, they’re set to release more music early in 2022. Follow Teddy Failure: Spotify Apple Music TikTok YouTube |
