From her independent breakthrough ‘All My Life’ to the recent ‘Refuge’ EP, Charlotte Jane is asserting a growing reputation as one of the UK’s most vital emerging stars. Earning diverse airplay at Radio 1, Radio 2BBC Introducing and even Sir Elton John’s Apple Music Rocket Hour show underlines her huge potential, mixing mainstream attention with tastemaker approval. That burgeoning reputation has been further amplified with high profile live shows with Lewis CapaldiJess GlynneDennis Lloyd and Tom Odell, plus a great in-depth feature recently on the The Line of Best Fit.

Charlotte Jane now extends her rising star status with her take on Givéon’s hit ‘Heartbreak Anniversary’, which was recorded for BBC Introducing at The Welly in her hometown of Hull.  Listen HERE.

It’s a fascinating reinvention of a modern classic, as the tender yearning of her remarkable voice puts a feminine spin on the original’s suave topline. The instrumentation is reimagined too, with the R&B production replaced by the raw intimacy of emotive piano and a dash of guitar. It proves that a great song shines in any setting, and that Charlotte Jane’s artistic talents can add something fresh to a song from a globally recognised artist.

Charlotte Jane says, “I heard ‘Heartbreak Anniversary’ for the first time through a streaming playlist and it stopped me in my tracks. It had been such a long time since I’d heard a song and thought ‘wow, I wish I’d written that.’ It completely went through me, gave me chills all over and a lump in my throat. It’s undoubtedly one of the best songs I’ve ever heard and will be one I continue to listen to forever. Singing it feels like an emotional release. I didn’t always intend on putting a cover version online as, to be honest, it probably should be left untouched. But here I am, I couldn’t help myself.”

The accompanying video shows that Charlotte Jane doesn’t need any gimmicks to capture your imagination. Accompanied by just two musicians and a single mirrorball, her lost-in-the-moment performance is utterly mesmerising. Watch the video HERE.

‘Heartbreak Anniversary’ demonstrates that Charlotte Jane’s voice is just as jaw-dropping as it is on record. This summer will give fans their first chance to discover that in person. She played Latitude on Saturday and Standon Calling yesterdaywith further festival dates following at 110 Above (August 12th-15th), TRNSMT (September 11th) and the Isle of Wight Festival (September 17th). Four shows with Rag ‘n’ Bone Man at Thetford Forest are also scheduled for 2022.
