THE FIRST SONG FROM HIS NEW EP ‘DREAMS OF SUMMERTIME’, OUT JUNE 4TH
Goldford’s recent single ‘Walk With Me’ presented a comforting message of unity as the world became disorientated by lockdown. Accumulating millions of streams, it spent six weeks in the Shazam Top 5 before making an impact in the UK when it was playlisted at Radio 2. While it captured the tumultuous emotions of the moment, it also introduced an audience to Goldford’s talents: his unwavering tenderness, his rough-and-tumble rasp, his pop sensibility and, most importantly, his stellar songwriting. Goldford now builds that growing connection with fans by sharing his brand new single ‘Ride The Storm’. Listen HERE. The track introduces his brand new EP ‘Dreams of Summertime’, which follows on June 4th. ‘Ride The Storm’ feels like a thematic sequel to ‘Walk With Me’. Putting a modern pop sensibility on timeless soul and R&B traditions, the song finds Goldford’s husky, weathered vocal extending a warm embrace to those struggling with these unsettled times. “I can’t keep you safe,” he sings, “but I can keep you warm.” “‘Ride The Storm’ reflects the collective anxiety that the world now lives in,” he says. “There are no guarantees of anything, but we’re going to get through this together.” The rest of the six-track ‘Dreams of Summertime’ EP focuses on the trials and tribulations of modern life. It spans struggling to make ends meet and aspiring to better days ahead in the title track, to the raw, one-take home recording of the closing song‘Mine To Lose’. “These songs are super-personal to me,” he summarises. “They look at how our struggles become our lessons. We all have this journey where we attempt to overcome our pain and discover what that means and what that looks like. And when it comes to the self-doubt we’re all confronted with, we decide whether we should choose to stand up to it or let it fold us like a wet napkin.” As unpleasant an experience as quarantine is, being forced into relative isolation proved to be the perfect recipe for Goldford to create a meaningful body of new songs, with no outside distractions or interruptions. He later took those songs into a Los Angeles studio with just two collaborators, the Grammy-nominated production duo Likeminds (John Legend, Ray BLK), and recorded both ‘Dreams of Summertime’ and a second EP that will follow later this year. Goldford gave up a steady conventional career in Chicago to pursue his dreams of becoming a musician in Nashville and then Los Angeles. His early track ‘Upside Down’ hit 30 million streams, which he followed by constantly working as a go-to collaborator for the likes of Kygo, Aloe Blacc and Lost Frequencies. After focusing exclusively on his own material, his upcoming EPs are the result of a new found focus on his creativity and the strongest material of his career so far. ‘Dreams of Summertime’ is available to pre-order or pre-save here. ‘Dreams of Summertime’ EP tracklist: ‘Ride The Storm’‘Dreams of Summertime’‘Come Alive For Me’‘As I Am of You’‘Carried Away’‘Mine To Lose’ |
