LANCEY FOUX ENTERS A NEW ERA WITH NEW SINGLE ‘POISON’ FEAT. BAKAR
Lancey Foux returns with new track ‘POISON’ feat. Bakar. The East London trailblazer is a staple of the global underground rap scene. Since starting out in 2015, when he decided to try his hand at recording during a friend’s studio session, Lancey has since remained prolific with two more mixtapes and collab projects with his collective Cultcaine and producer NYGE. In December last year, he released his most ambitious record yet, the self-reflective ‘Friend Or Foux’ which boasts a diverse line-up of guest features including Skepta, Chip, Bakar, Clairo and Monkey of 67.
Lancey thrives as a live performer and has been putting in work on the road: he supported Skepta on the 14 date SK LEVEL European tour in 2018 and became the first UK artist to perform at world renowned US rap festival Rolling Loud last year. Just two days after the release of ‘Friend or Foux’ he sold out his first headline show at O2 Academy Islington.
Off the strength of his unique “trap-punk” aesthetic, Lancey has become a celebrated figure in fashion, having modelled for Jordan, A-COLD-WALL*, Givenchy, MISBHV, Trapstar and Naomi Campbell’s 2019 Fashion for Relief Gala. His cult-like following includes a who’s who of names from across sports, fashion and music, including Hector Bellerin, Virgil Abloh, Playboi Carti, Lil Yachty, Wizkid, Trippie Redd, Sheck Wes and Slowthai.
Recorded in April this year during lockdown, the introspective ‘POISON’ sees Lancey joining forces with Camden rockstar Bakar as they consider how their lifestyle rubs off around those around them, and the unintentionally negative effect that it could have: “Maybe I’m not good for the people around me. Maybe I’m a bit of a bad influence,” says Lancey of the Jay Trench & BNYX-produced track. “My whole being and the way that I go on, maybe I’m not good for people to take from this. It goes back to self-reflection.”
‘POISON’s video – by award winning director Olivia Rose (Skepta, Jorja Smith) – introduces a new character for Lancey, who has taken on different forms to reflect the eras of his musical journey so far. His exploration of personas was inspired by icons like David Bowie, Michael Jackson and Prince. “Every time they had a different message to bring, they become a new person,” Lancey explains. “With this character now, I’m a new being. I’m in a whole different state. I’m on a new world.”
‘POISON’ is the introduction to a new era of Lancey Foux; as he acclimatises to the new hell that we all find ourselves living in 2020, the next chapter promises to be his wildest.
