She has been a chart-topping broadcaster, a Sony award-winning radio host, a novelist, a screenwriter, and a familiar face from The One Show. But Alison Craig’s most surprising chapter has come later in life, in a small room at her father’s old desk. What started as a private outlet has led to hundreds of songs, collaborations with music industry royalty, and a creative rebirth no one saw coming.
Her new single, ‘Sometimes’, distills the drama of that extraordinary turnaround. A hushed, hypnotic ballad that recalls the emotional candour of Carole King or Joni Mitchell, it is a reckoning with loss and resilience: a farewell to her former life after being diagnosed with a degenerative lung condition, and the rebirth that followed. It is also just the beginning. Craig’s debut album is due in early 2026, a collection of songs that stretch from rock grit and funk swagger to torch-song intimacy, an artist whose palette reflects both her Scottish roots and her pan-genre radio days, anchored in a tradition that recalls Judie Tzuke, Julia Fordham and Marianne Faithfull.
Growing up in Aberdeen surrounded by her father’s instruments, Craig abandoned early musical ambitions in favour of a high-profile broadcasting career: fronting live chat shows, interviewing everyone from Bryan Ferry to Victoria Beckham, hosting prime-time television, and anchoring radio across Scotland. A Sony Award, New York Radio prizes, and a stint as a roving reporter for The One Show followed.
Then came the diagnosis. In 2012, repeated lung collapses forced Craig off the air. Told she’d be lucky to live ten years, she wrote novels instead, including a bestselling trilogy published by Orion, with one book adapted for film by Jason Connery. But it was always about the music. A weekend songwriting retreat on Scotland’s west coast unlocked something unstoppable: hundreds of songs have poured out since, mentored by industry royalty including A&R veteran Kate Hyman (Moby, Beth Orton, Jeff Buckley).
Craig has since recorded between the Highlands, London, and Los Angeles, collaborating with Emmy Award winning songwriter/producer Andrew Rollins on a couple tracks and even crossing the Atlantic by ship, unable to fly due to her lungs, echoing Bowie’s own crossings in pursuit of destiny.
