Singer songwriter Frawley talks to music promotions about her ownmusic, writing for other artists and much more. Read in full below.
Your new single “I Broke My Own Heart For The Plot, can you talk more about the story behind it? How long did this song take you to write and record?
I wrote the record after having to cut off a guy who was stringing me along, always leaving me to wonder what we were. One night, I was with two of my co-writers, Gabe Reali and Rory Adams and we came up with the hook for “I Broke My Heart for the Plot”. After writing and rewriting verses and melodies over the course of a few months, the song finally felt ready. At that point, I had put every way I felt about the situation into the song and it was ready to be released.
Where did you shoot the music video for it?
I shot the visualizer on a whim in NYC. I was running around, filming simple videos to post to TikTok and Instagram reels and decided halfway through, that we should use that content and make a visualizer out of it. New York is so, so special to me, so it was great using it as the backdrop for a song that’s equally important to me.
You’re an amazing songwriter, how are you inspired when you start writing a song?
Typically it starts with me being overly dramatic about a situation and then I just run with the feeling. When I go into the studio I typically have a melody or a lyric or even just a concept on deck, ready to roll with right away. My head is constantly going, constantly thinking of ideas so I rarely run short on inspiration.
You’ve released two songs with David J (love them) have you got any more music releases coming together?
Thank you! As of now no more releases together… but hey, never say never! We’re continuing to write with one another for my project which has been a lot of fun. He’s not only a great vocalist, but an incredible writer as well, so it’s great getting to continue to collaborate with him, just in a different capacity.
When it comes to collaborating with other artists how does the process happen?
All of the collaborations I have been a part of have happened one-on-one with the other artist! Usually, we get a session going and get to work, but sometimes DJs and artists like to work on music alone then pitch songs to potential collaborators/artists.
You’ve written for other artists including Tate McRae and Cian Ducrot and John Legend, did you write with them in mind when you’re creating or is it a writing session then see what happens afterwards to who picks them up to record so to speak?
With Tate, Cian and John, we wrote our songs together in the studio! When I’m writing for another artist, I much prefer writing in-person so I can get feedback in real time and get everyone involved in the song-writing process. At the end of the day, it’s the artist’s story I’m trying to help tell.
What’s been the easiest and then the hardest songs you’ve written?
Writing comes naturally to me, but there are definitely some weeks where I’ve experienced writer’s block and feel like I have nothing to say or any catchy melodies to share. When that happens, that typically means I need to get out more and make sure I’m experiencing life.
Do you have a time limit on finishing a song?
Never! Good things take time.
What have been some of your most memorable songwriting sessions?
Writing with John Legend and Metro Boomin has to be the most memorable songwriting session I’ve done to date. I remember pulling up to the session so nervous that I asked my Uber driver to let me wait 5 minutes in the car before I went in. The session was all around such a great vibe. John and Metro are some of the most down to earth and genuinely cool people I’ve had the pleasure of working with.
Are you working towards releasing an EP or album or is the singles for now that you’re focusing on?
I have hard drives full of songs I’m ready to release and am so excited about. I’m aiming towards releasing a project sometime later this year or early 2026. Be on the lookout!
Have you anything live coming up that you can share?
I’m currently in the process of lining up a few shows!

Who were some of your musical inspirations growing up and do they influence your sound at all now?
Our last guest Cassa Jackson asked: What’s a piece of advice you’ve received that completely changed the way you see life or make music?
Someone once told me to make music for myself and not for other people. I’ve been in rooms where people would start a session off by saying “well, would this work on TikTok?” Or “what do the kids want to hear today?” The reason we make music is because it’s our passion and it’s our outlet. I find when I write for myself and my feelings, people naturally resonate with what I have to say. When you start overthinking, analyzing or writing for the wrong reasons, the joy and the rawness of the music is completely stripped away.
