Two legends of the 80’s Spandau Ballet’s Steve Norman and T’Pau’s Carol Decker have come together to record their version of the Christmas classic ‘White Christmas’. Steve and Carol share lead vocals and the single also features a sax solo by Steve. The track will be available on all platforms from 29th November.
“I was offered the chance to record a Xmas single in an 80s style and I grabbed it with both hands. I’ve always celebrated Xmas and all its make believe and the bringing of people together. But I didn’t feel like doing the single on my own, for me a duet would be much more fun. That person had to be Carol. Not only is she a fabulous singer, she still gives it edge, and she’s also my mate, so off we went to Berlin to record our vocals. It was a very creative and pleasant experience. Steve Norman: is co-founder of Spandau Ballet, saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. His many career highlights include performing at Live Aid at Wembley Stadium and being involved on Band Aid’s Christmas classic ‘Do They Know Its Christmas’. With Spandau Ballet he had numerous global hits including ‘True’, ‘Gold’ and ‘Through The Barricades’. He also toured the world playing to huge audiences in stadiums and arenas. In 2015 the band released a critically acclaimed documentary movie about the band’s story called “Soul Boys Of The Western World” that premiered at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas. Norman has performed with a wide selection of artists over the years including Holy Holy featuring ex- “Spider from Mars” Woody Woodmansey, Tony Visconti (David Bowie producer) & Glenn Gregory; Marc Almond; Earl Slick (Bowie guitarist); Mike Garson (Bowie pianist & keyboard player); Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, Bruce Foxton (The Jam); Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols); Kim Wilde; Paul Young and many others. However, he achieved a personal goal when he performed on-stage with the legend that is Iggy Pop. He also tours with his own band The Sleevs and has upcoming sold-out Christmas shows in December at Pizza Express Holborn.
Carol Decker: As the powerhouse vocalist of T’pau she had her first hit with ‘Heart & Soul’ reaching No. 4 in both the UK & US charts, taken from the debut album ‘Bridge Of Spies’. A headline theatre tour followed, alongside their next hit the classic ballad China In Your Hand, which stayed at No. 1 for 5 weeks – the longest serving No. 1 of the year. Simultaneously ‘Bridge Of Spies’ occupied the number 1 album slot and an arena tour followed. After further hits Valentine, I Will Be With You, and Sex Talk The “Bridge Of Spies album was certified quadruple platinum in the UK, selling 1.2 million copies. 1988’s Rage also went platinum. T’Pau were nominated for 5 Brit Awards, an Ivor Novello Award for ‘China In Your Hand’, and won an ASCAP Award from the USA for ‘Heart & Soul’.’ Easing up on the touring to have 2 children, Carol hit the West End Stage in the hit comedy ‘Mum’s the Word’ with Patsy Palmer, Imogen Stubbs Jennie Éclair and Cathy Tyson. TV Dramas included ‘Doctors’, ‘Star’ with Nicolas Hoult. UK film ‘Nine Dead Gay Guys’ with Steven Berkoff & Michael Praed. Carol is a popular guest on radio and TV that has included Sara Cox, Jools Holland , Jonathan Ross, Chris Evans, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Trigger Happy TV, Loose Women, Lorraine and Celeb Mastermind. She was the winner of All Star Mr and Mrs, Pointless! Celebrity and Master Chef. Carol has presented radio shows for Absolute 80’s, Magic & LBC. A regular fixture on the Festival & Arena circuit .T’pau annually rock IOW ,Rewind, Let’s Rock ,W-Fest, Here and Now, StepBack, Ibiza Children of the 80’s to name but a few. In 2022, Decker released an autobiography titled Heart And Soul.
