In the ever-evolving landscape of the UK music scene, one name continues to captivate both newcomers and devoted fans alike: Nieve Ella. Following the resounding success of her 2023 EP, ‘Lifetime of Wanting,’ which boasted standout tracks like ‘Car Park’ and ‘His Sofa,’ as well as a sold-out debut headline tour this February and her more recent release ‘The Things We Say,’ rising West Midlands songwriter and guitarist Nieve Ella is poised to elevate her soaring trajectory to new heights in 2024.

Today, she shares new single ‘Sugarcoated’ out now on AWAL Recordings.

LISTEN TO ‘SUGARCOATED’

Captivating a growing legion of fans with her potent indie-pop confessionals, seamlessly melded with the ambiance of 90’s guitar, Nieve Ella’s latest single, ‘Sugarcoated’ marks an evolved next step. As comfortable in her own skin as one can be at the age of 21 years old, her new single is a candid exploration of imposter syndrome and the dissonance between online personas and personal identity.

Teaming up with producer Jamie Rendle, Ella adeptly flaunts her talent for blending powerful choruses with the eclectic elements of her indie-pop palette. ‘Sugarcoated’ brims with frothy crash cymbals and slanted guitar lines, laying the perfect architecture for her distinctive, raspy vocals.

Reflecting on her new single, Ella explains, “‘Sugarcoated’ is written about my struggle with imposter syndrome, how people see me online compared to how I see myself. I had an experience where I met an old friend on a train who I hadn’t seen for years, and the conversation we had completely inspired this song. So, this is me explaining to them how I am still the same person as they knew me at home, but also still celebrating how hard I’ve worked for my dreams. It’s kinda me just saying, “sometimes things have to be sugar coated.”

Healing broken hearts through hooks and harmonies, Ella has already garnered the attention of BBC Radio 1’s Introducing, earning Greg James’ ‘Record Of The Week’ and praise from Jack Saunders, while securing two Radio 1 playlist adds. With over 8 million streams and glowing praise from titles including NME, Rolling Stone UK, The Independent, DORK, Clash, The Line of Best Fit, The Forty-Five, DMY, Wonderland, Hunger, Notion, and many more, Ella’s talent for authentic and vulnerable songwriting shines through. There is no grandstanding, no attempt to hide the genuine confusion of youth. It’s why Nieve Ella and her songs continue to connect, and her fan base grows exponentially.

Following her support slots for Dylan and the Irish foursome Inhaler on their European and UK tours, Ella embarked on a remarkable headline tour this February, selling out tickets in under 5 minutes. Extra dates were swiftly added in London and Birmingham, both selling out immediately. Praised as “a sold-out Omeara already feels too small” by Dork and described as “ready to make the jump from cult hero to proper stardom” by NME, Nieve Ella finds herself on the cusp of meteoric success in 2024. She continues to impress with a slew of festival dates this summer, having just delivered a standout performance at this year’s Primavera festival.
