Multi-platinum recording artist and Latin GRAMMY nominee Guitarricadelafuente has released the original song “La nieve” which will be featured in Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi‘s acclaimed feature film LA BOLA NEGRA. Listen HERE.
LA BOLA NEGRA follows three generations of men across pivotal moments in Spanish history, bound by pain, desire, and love. Carlos (Milo Quifes) longs to belong in a fractured Spain. Sebastián (Guitarricadelafuente) finds connection across enemy lines. And Alberto (Carlos González) uncovers a long-buried family secret, one that finally gives voice to truths the past tried to erase.
The film also stars Miguel Bernardeau (Rafael), Goya winner Lola Dueñas (Teresa), Academy Award winner Penélope Cruz (Nené), Golden Globe winner Glenn Close (Isabelle), and Emmy-nominated Julio Torres (Juan Pablo).
“I wanted ‘La nieve’ to come from the same emotional place as the characters in the film,” shares Alvaro Lafuente Calvo aka Guitarricadelafuente. “I was inspired by Federico García Lorca’s last letter and also by my character, Sebastián. I thought about all of his unspoken feelings, and I had to live in that as an actor first to be inspired to write the song.”
Guitarrica makes his acting debut in the film in a role written and tailored specifically for him by Calvo and Ambrossi – popularly known as Los Javis. LA BOLA NEGRA will open in UK and Ireland cinemas on 6 November. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to a 20-minute standing ovation, with Calvo and Ambrossi taking home the “Best Director” prize. It is currently vying to represent Spain as its Official Country Selection for the Academy Award’s “Best International Feature.”
With festival momentum continuing to build across the world, LA BOLA NEGRA is rapidly heating up this year’s Oscars race.
Guitarrica’s dual performance sets up a rare artistic crossover: only four individuals in Oscars history have earned nominations for both acting and Best Original Song for the same film in a single year (Mary J. Blige, Lady Gaga, Cynthia Erivo, and Leslie Odom Jr.). Guitarrica could become the fifth performer to achieve this feat with “La nieve.”
Guitarrica recently made his U.S. TV debut with a performance of “BABIECA!” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The song is from his critically-acclaimed album ‘Spanish Leather’ which has now passed 100 million Spotify streams. ‘Spanish Leather’ was spotlighted as one of Rolling Stone’s “Best Albums of 2025” and described as “One of the most thrilling and adventurous records of the year.”
2026 has been a banner year for Guitarricadelafuente. NPR published his “Tiny Desk Concert” in January, saying that his “melodies are seismic. Etched together with electronic beats, ethereal guitar, symphonic accents and sometimes zanfona.” In February, Guitarrica launched his first U.S. tour with sold out dates across the country. From there, he performed at major Latin America festivals such as Lollapalooza Argentina and Tecate Pa’l Norte as well as European festivals such as Primavera Sound and Montreux Jazz.
With his album ‘Spanish Leather,’ Guitarricadelafuente not only solidifies the style that established him as one of the most compelling voices of his generation, it pushes it forward. While rooted in the raw, earthy textures of Spanish and Latin American folk that shaped his debut, Guitarrica evolves further on his sophomore album ‘Spanish Leather‘ with a more expansive sound. On the album, he worked with a diverse group of producers including Carter Lang (SZA, Justin Bieber), Jasper Harris (Jack Harlow, Camila Cabello), pablopablo (C. Tangana, Nathy Peluso) and Rodaidh McDonald (The XX, Adele). ‘Spanish Leather’ creates a push-and-pull between the familiar and the unknown that gives the album its distinctive edge: timeless yet unmistakably original.
