Wednesday 22nd March 2023, London, UK – 21-year-old rising singer-songwriter Lewis Fitzgerald, who has previously collaborated with US rapper Rxseboy and worked with producers such as Benji Gibson (Fred again, Headie One, Aitch), releases brand new single ‘Short Ride’ ft. Wewantwraiths today via Relentless Records.
The first release taken from his forthcoming debut EP due for release in May 2023, the emotionally charged ‘Short Ride’ has already received major traction on TikTok with millions of views.
The initial idea for ‘Short Ride‘ came when Lewis Fitzgerald was visiting an ill friend in hospital – where he overheard a conversation between a young woman and her mother, who was suffering with cancer. They were discussing the importance of making the most of life, and Lewis was so moved by it, that the concept ‘live fast die young’ became the focal point of inspiration for the song.
Through candid, heartfelt lyrics that confront the brevity of life and Lewis Fitzgerald’s melodic vocals, the catchy pop-R&B ballad ‘Short Ride’ reflects the singer-songwriter’s ability to convey his immensely personal experiences of heartbreak, regret, loss and suicidal thoughts through his music.
“This song represents some of my childhood and things I went through, I had suicidal thoughts and attempts when I was younger and it’s kind of like my way of releasing that pain now through this sound, remembering how it was and how I thought at the time, it’s like me saying it to myself.”
‘Short Ride’ features Wewantwraiths, the elusive bally-clad midlands rapper and GRM Rated Award nominee who has collaborated with some of the rap games finest, including Tion Wayne, M Huncho, Unknown T and Central Cee. Having accumulated millions of streams and YouTube views on renowned singles ‘Know You’ and ‘Chanaynay’, as well as his appearance on Kenny Allstar’s Mixtape Madness series ‘Mad About Bars’, the rising star steps onto ‘Short Ride’ with a refreshingly vulnerable take. Much like Lewis Fitzgerald, Wewantwraiths writes vivid, personal lyrics that depict life on the streets and his journey making it ‘out of the hood’.
‘Short Ride’ marks Lewis Fitzgerald’s second release this year, and follows his remix of 2022 single ‘Love Me‘ featuring Bizzy. & Rxseboy.
The accompanying music video for ‘Short Ride’, directed by Dumi Siwo and produced by Daniel Evans, follows Lewis Fitzgerald and Wewantwraiths in a car journey through London, where fans were able to dictate the plot in real time via TikTok and Instagram polls.
With an ever-growing and engaged fanbase on social media, the is now set for a busy 2023 with a series of singles, a debut EP, and a run of shows in the UK & Ireland including a date @ The Social hosted by Communion on April 20th and a string of performances as part of his ‘Ireland Pub Tour’.
