“A voice that instantly strikes you in your core and a poetic groove that makes you move.” – Notion “A heartbreaking soul sound of the Maverick Sabre variety, but with a rousing and dramatic edge.” – Complex “Freddie Long is precociously talented.” – Clash “Meet Freddie Long, the burgeoning musician with the potential for a career to match the name.” – Wonderland “Fans of Tom Grennan and Lewis Capaldi, Freddie’s for you!” – MTV UK |
After exceeding 5 million streams with his two EPs and a handful of singles, Freddie Long is in the midst of a new chapter after his recent tracks ‘In Your Arms’ and ‘Addicted To Your Love’. Mixing a bigger, more atmospheric sound with lyrics that hit harder than ever before, both songs will feature on his upcoming third EP ‘Motions’. His new style has been rewarded with huge streaming and radio support at home in the UK as well as in Germany and Italy. Earlier this month, he also made a triumphant return to the stage with a sold-out London show at The Victoria. Freddie now delves deeper into his emotionally revealing narratives with his brand new single ‘Hide and Seek’. Listen HERE. Despite his growing skills as a songwriter who uses music as a release for turbulent feelings, ‘Hide and Seek’ almost immediately confesses, “I knew the words but couldn’t get them out.” The production constantly upscales its dramatic zeal, moving boldly from austere piano to a sophisticated soundscape of cinematic percussion and subtle flourishes of guitar. But Freddie’s vocal is never overwhelmed, as he delivers each pained lyric with utmost regret for the problems he explores. Freddie says, “‘Hide and Seek’ is the third song from this latest EP and it’s probably the most personal track on there. It was a tough song to write. Going through hard patches in my relationships with others made me realise my mistakes. I wanted this song to be a message about that. Looking back at the moment I didn’t see that I was letting people down and not giving them 100%.” ‘Hide and Seek’ is the latest product of Freddie’s work with Anders Hojer (James Arthur’s Gold-certified ‘Falling From The Stars’), who produced the entire ‘Motions’ EP. Remarkably, ‘Hide and Seek’ was written within just a few hours of the pair having met for the first time. As Freddie recalls, “Normally it takes a few sessions to gel with writers but with Anders we hit it off straight away. It was easy for us to share the message behind the song, as we connected to its message in different ways.” Originally from Sussex and now based in London, Freddie Long’s songs feel like heartfelt confessions from an old friend. Heartbreak and mental health issues are recurring themes in his lyrics, and he collaborated with the charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) to use his song ‘Hope’ to help build awareness around male suicide and the strength of being able to open up about your problems. His releases are connecting with people, as evidenced by amassing a million streams each for his first two EPs ‘These Darker Days’ and ‘Blessed Or Cursed’ and then another million alone for his single ‘The Nowhere Times’. Freddie’s interest in fashion has proved to be a strong supporting sideline to his music. He created his first run of merch himself, and later collaborated with Levi’s to release his own jeans and denim jacket designs. Most recently he teamed up with Charli Cohen to personalise old military clothing to create a series of looks that are exclusive to Freddie. Those projects resulted in interest from Style Magazine in Italy, who featured him both in print and online. |
