1. What is the story behind ‘Pride Of The Weak?
Well, the idea of “Pride of the Weak” came up two years ago, at first, we didn’t plan to create an album, but as we were composing songs during 2019, we decided to give it shape to everything we were creating to launch an album. Basically, the idea of “Pride of the Weak” is related to all the experiences, and experiences that I had, on a personal and emotional level. They are situations and emotions such as sadness, loneliness, a painful breakup, enjoying meeting someone you love, I also talk about problematic experiences in the past and reflections on how my life is going. I am talking about feelings that we have all felt at some point in our life and make us look weak in the eyes of the rest, but nothing is further from reality, that´s what makes us strong and learn about what you lived and how you want to be. I show myself as I am, with everything I have been through during my life and it makes me the person I am today and I’m very proud of it.
2. Does ‘Runaway’ give a good indication of the sound and style of the album?
Yes and no, because Runaway is the song that opens the album and presents you a bit as “Pride of the Weak” is going to be, with atmospheric, intimate, and dark sounds, however, not the whole album is like that, I like the diversity and trying different sounds, and that´s why the album has apparently different sounds but under a common aesthetic. It´s true that the sound of “Runaway” can be heard in other songs like “Nonstop” or “Raining Bullets”, but then we have more animated and emotional songs like “Do I Love U?”, “Nothing to Lose ” or ” Golden Eyes “, or even the most personal and reflective songs like ” The Leaving “,” Rollercoaster “or” Pride of the Weak “.
3. Could you tell everyone a little bit more about yourself? Who you are as an artist?
Well, XEINN is a 22-year-old artist from Spain, who has been in music professionally for 6 years and is now releasing his first studio album “Pride of the Weak”.
My music is characterized by an R & B / Soul sound, where I also use funky, pop, hip-hop, or electronic sounds. I like to try myself in a multitude of genres, that´s why I would never be able to make music of only one genre, I like to change, innovate and dare with new sounds. It is part of the artist’s job to have the ability to be open to new challenges that take him out of his comfort zone, this is the only way to improve as an artist as well.
4. What was your inspiration and energy behind the making of your album?
Without a doubt, the inspirations behind my album are my own experiences. The album, as I have mentioned before, is based on my experiences and, experiences that make me the person I am today and of which I feel very proud. Saying that my inspirations are my experiences, it may seem that it´s something simple, but it may not be, because you have to look inside yourself, have a retrospective vision of your life and sometimes it can become something complicated or deceive yourself. However, when all these obstacles are overcome, inspiration comes by itself, it´s something magical and above all it allows you to know yourself better as a person, something that is important for your life.
5. As a songwriter, what for you makes a great song?
It is a set of things, on the one hand, the instrumental has to be really special and good, that it transmits something to you by itself. On the other hand, in the compositional aspect, both the vocal melodies and the lyrics are of great importance, it is like a symbiotic relationship, the two benefit and support each other, with this I mean that a good melody accompanied by good lyrics is something explosive, and that really reaches the heart. That is why it is really important when creating a song, that both the melody and the lyrics have a relationship between them.
Finally, getting into aspects of musical production, the song that has been recorded must have a certain quality standard, and sometimes it is something that costs but you have to work on it, since the quality of the recording and in general of the song and how it has been produced and mixed, it is extremely important for what you want to convey with the song as well, otherwise you lose much of the idea you want to communicate.
6. Listening to the music out there right now, what music are you loving at the moment?
It’s funny because we are at a time where a large number of musical genres are heard by a large number of listeners. I am a person who likes to listen to everything, I do not have a specific genre that identifies me, since I believe that everything in music has something special and transmits something. If I had to talk about the musical genres I’m listening to the most these days, they would be: House (Deep house, Future house), Electro, Synthwave (Synth-pop too), R & B / Soul, Trap, Hip-Hop, and Pop.
7. Any artist’s that you’d love to work with?
I would love to be able to collaborate with Bruno Mars. He is a musician with great talent and ability in any musical ambit and above all he has great musical knowledge with which he can make music of all kinds with high compositional and melodic quality, and also, with an incredible sound. I have been following him for many years and he is an artist who has always fascinated me, so it would be a great experience for me.
On the other hand, I would like to have the opportunity to work with The Weeknd, he has been my great influence since I started in music, I am fascinated by the way he composes the melodies, writes the lyrics, produces and his instrumentals, as well as his personality as an artist. For me, it would be a great honor and a great opportunity to work and collaborate with him on a Project.
8. You started out uploading covers to Youtube, what have been some of your favourite songs you have covered? Do you think this is the best way for an artist to showcase themselves? What advice would you give to new artists wanting to break out into music?
There are three covers that I really like and I usually listen to from time to time. The first is “No Brainer” by DJ Khaled Ft. Justin Bieber, Quavo, and Chance the Rapper, it is a song that I love how I have sung it since I did it with great enthusiasm and I gave it a lot of emotion and at the production level it is very good from the hand of “Raone Music”. The other cover that really fascinates me is “Call Out My Name” by The Weeknd, at that time I was in a somewhat sad emotional situation, and this song represented how I felt perfectly, and from the first moment I started singing, it came out completely natural and fluid. The feeling that I convey in that song continues to amaze me to this day. And the last one is “Changes” by XXXTENTACION, the most important cover in my musical career with more than 12 million views, despite not being a vocally complicated song, it required an emotion that was sometimes difficult to find, but I finally got it and the result was that great cover that made me known to the whole world and of which I am very proud.
I sincerely believe that doing covers is the best way to introduce yourself to the world of music since it is a great showcase to make yourself known since many people love the versions that are made of their favorite songs and you have the opportunity to reach a very wide audience. I would encourage anyone who wants to start in music to upload versions of songs to social networks since on the one hand you gain audience and people who will start following your content, you lose the fear of exposing your music to people, and on the other hand, you will improve as an artist and your vocal technique as you upload more songs.
9. Touring plans for this year or next?
Of course, We have plans to return to the stage in fact, we are planning the return to the shows for October, where we will play all the songs from “Pride of the Weak” along with the new songs that we are composing now. I really want to get back on stage and see all the people singing my songs, it’s a really magical feeling.
