Today (28 May), ALAN McGEE initiates the official countdown to the inaugural Creation Day Festival.
Marking one-year-to-the-day until the 2022 fixture, the Creation Records legend and curator of this brand new festival visited the West Park site in Wolverhampton today in anticipation of the event.
A two-day weekend festival experience taking place on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th May next year, McGee’s visit also marks the date on which the original festival was due to be held under normal circumstances.
Taking in a tour of West Park earlier today, tonight McGee will be talking about plans for the festival, the hit-new biopic Creation Stories, life, music and more in an exclusive live Q&A hosted by Clint Boon at the Arena Theatre in Wolverhampton. Also available to stream online, viewers can tune into this special event at home from 8pm tonight. HERE. The talk will also include a full live set by Marquis Drive.
Speaking about Creation Day Festival on his visit today, Alan McGee said:
“I’m glad to be in the City of Wolverhampton today on what would have been the weekend of the first ever Creation Day Festival… We will be back even bigger, better and stronger with the festival in 12 months-time, while we strive to bring you Creation Day Festival for a number of years to come.”
Forming Creation Records in 1983, the label rapidly became one of the most iconic of the 80s and 90s indie scene, with Alan introducing major acts to the world including Primal Scream, The Jesus & Mary Chain and Oasis.
Organised in collaboration with Toura Toura Festivals and the City of Wolverhampton Council, McGee’s latest venture: Creation Day promises to be a musical extravaganza in the spirit of the Creation legacy. At next year’s rearranged festival, fans can expect a stellar line-up of acts handpicked by McGee himself; from the classic bands who have soundtracked his career, to the freshest new sounds inspiring him in the here-and-now.
Creation Day had originally been planned for this weekend, but organisers decided to move the date due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic to ensure music lovers could enjoy the event safely and to the full. While plans are to include the majority of the artists from the original line-up where possible, it is also confirmed that there will also be a few new surprises to look forward to…
The full line-up for Creation Day Festival 2022 is to be announced very soon. Watch this space.
