‘MEGA DANCE’ sees the duo delivering on their two big ambitions for the project. Firstly, they wanted to deliver a pounding, high-intensity set of explosive dance cuts that feels as if you’re right there with them in the DJ booth. They flavoured the renowned Rebecca & Fiona sound by stepping back to their first dance music loves by taking inspiration from the classic ‘90sand 2000s chart-bound, floor-filling energy of Rollergirl, Leila K, Ace of Base and Scooter.
Secondly, they wanted to bring a taste of the dusk-to-dawn Ibizan club euphoria circa 2002 to fans right across the world. And as soon as the beat drops on the frenetic ‘Arena’ you’ll realise that’s what they’ve achieved. There’s no letting up from that point, with every moment larger-than-life, emotionally exciting and, above all, fun. And it doesn’t let up until the helium-voiced, breakbeat pulse of ‘Paradise’ flows into the self-explanatory ‘Bubble Bass’ and the sun comes up to the piano house finale ‘Love Has A Prize’.
Rebecca & Fiona launch ‘’MEGA DANCE’ alongside the new focus track ‘Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good)’. It’s a simple, but devastatingly effective approach: take one of the biggest dance hits of the ‘90s and add some 2024 decadence and classic Rebecca & Fiona character to Rozalla’s famous smash hit. ‘MEGA DANCE’ also spotlights further guests on the mid-point highlight ‘J’Adore Nonstop’. Apollo from Swedish duo House of Virginism appear on the track, the duo best known for their international house anthem ‘I’ll Be There For You (Doya Dododo Doya)’. The pair released a second UK Top 40 hit, also on the renowned FFRR, with ‘Reachin’. ‘J’Adore Nonstop’ features a second guest in the shape of Lauer, the German producer who collaborates with Gerd Janson as Tuff City Kids.
Rebecca & Fiona commented, “We know that our hardcore audience are emotional, big thinking party people.. so we know they appreciate some depth in the music even when it’s played on the dance floor!
‘MEGA DANCE’ is pure, simply fun. We’ve had a long period of navigating through our broad taste in electronic music. It has been very rewarding and has made us better writers and producers overall, but it feels like we have made our way back home somehow. Back to the dance floor, where we belong.
The playfulness in the lyrics and melodies, combined with heavy beats and catchy leads, brings us back to the CD compilations of dance music we first bought as kids. Breakbeats, acid, M1 piano, trance strings, and hardstyle kicks, with flirty, girly, sexy, and cool vocals. That nostalgic feeling can probably bring you back to a happy place with your friends on the dance floor or to a heartbreak that scarred you for life.
The process and making of the album was very easygoing and fast. But finalising and mixing took a bit longer than expected, because when Fiona had her little baby girl it gave us some time to rest and live with the music, and that led to some improvement and last-minute changes, probably for the better. But now it’s finally FINISHED. Set the music free! You’re never going to get a clean-cut genre from us; we have too many sounds we like, and it’s telling a part of our story.”#
Rebecca & Fiona will celebrate the release of the album by hosting the special ‘MEGA DANCE’ Festival at Stockholm’s Kägelbanan tomorrow, September 28th. They head a perfect party line-up that also includes DJ Carli, David Jackson, jahanam and Tommie X.
The striking DJ/producer duo have bounded between dance, electronica and pop since debuting in 2007, their career highlights to date including an array of chart positions across Europe, their own TV docu/drama series and international shows with the likes of Robyn, Avicii, Tiësto, Kaskade and Axwell plus festivals ranging from Tomorrowland to Electric Daisy Carnival. They also teamed up with P3 to host a Swedish special of Europe’s Biggest Dance Show on Radio 1.
