Change can be an unpredictable force—both exhilarating and disorienting. For rising WestMidlands songwriter and guitarist Nieve Ella, the past few months have been a whirlwind, propelling her into a new chapter. Emerging from this period is the 21-year-old’s biting new single, ‘Ganni Top (She Gets What She Needs)’, out today, on AWAL Recordings.
The single is the final glimpse from Ella’s transformational new 8-track EP, ‘Watch It Ache and Bleed’, arriving on 17th October. An ode to ripened self-awareness, the EP contours melancholy and mischief across gritty 90s indie with a refined pop edge. It encapsulates the essence of a young artist who has redefined her understanding of ambition and desire.

A rip-roaring highlight produced by Jamie Rendle and Hugo M Hardy (Nick Mulvey, Col3trane, Obongjayar) new single ‘Ganni Top’ presents a hedonistic take on fresh starts, with Ella envisioning the exhilarating escapades that follow her liberation. “You can fill me in the back of your limousine,” she quips on this playful, grunge-inspired tribute to newfound singledom. Complementing the single is a rousing official video directed by REBEKAHBCREATIVE. Adorned in her signature heart-jewelled necklace and corset, the video is a sassy exploration of ‘getting what she needs.’ The video will premiere on Saturday, 21st, at 6pm BST. Available to watch here.
Reflecting on her new single, Ella describes: “Ganni Top is a glamourised celebration of being young, fun, wild, and free, while also highlighting the needs of a woman. She gets what she needs!”
Artwork for ‘Watch It Ache and Bleed’
‘Watch It Ache and Bleed’ was crafted with the dizzying, freeing energy of the stage in mind and in just two short years, Ella has nurtured a fiercely devoted and vocal fanbase thanks to her wit and electrifying stage presence. Her fans, who create numerous online fan accounts and regularly queue for hours while exchanging gifts before her shows, are a testament to her unflinching authenticity. Ella’s music eschews grandstanding, sharing unfiltered reflections on growing pains, impulsive moments, and those first, unexpected breakups. She offers a candid voice for listeners navigating their own journeys of self-discovery.
Building on the momentum from 2023’s EPs ‘Lifetime of Wanting’ and ‘Young & Naive’ and buoyed by a sold-out headline tour and a standout festival season, Ella is set to elevate her career to new heights. Also, opening for Girl in Red on her UK and European arena tour spanning September and October, which included a highly applauded performance at London’s Wembley Arena marking one of her biggest gigs yet.
With her knack for mending broken hearts through hooks and harmonies, it’s no surprise Ella has already captured the ear of BBC Radio 1 with two playlist adds, earning Greg James’ ‘Record Of The Week’ and acclaim from Jack Saunders. With over 9 million streams and accolades from titles Rolling Stone UK, The Independent, DORK, Clash, The Line of Best Fit, The Forty-Five, DMY, Wonderland, Hunger, Notion, Haste, alongside gracing the cover of NME, Ella has become a sanctified beacon for those navigating the path to and through adulthood.
Emerging artists seldom arrive so fully formed, with such a masterful command over their emotions – she is a powerful, needed figure in British indie, one who makes young people feel seen and heard. With ‘Ganni Top (She Gets What She Needs)’ out now, the anticipation is palpable for her new EP. Pre-order ‘Watch It Ache and Bleed’ here.
