The opening chapter of Sam Olyott’s career has been an inspiring tale of perseverance. From busking in Liverpool city centre to becoming a viral sensation and then earning glowing comparisons to Sam Fender and Paolo Nutini with his first official tracks, Sam has carved out a blossoming future from modest beginnings. Continually stepping up, Sam today celebrates a new milestone in his career with the release of his debut ‘EP1’. The EP is launched alongside his new single ‘What My Mother Said’.Listen HERE.

‘What My Mother Said’ provides a different mood and emotion to what Sam has presented with the EP’s previous tracks ‘Cold Toast’, ‘On Your Own’ and ‘Never Be You’. By using his rich vocal tone to share evocative lyric snapshots of his childhood memories – bedtime stories, sleepless nights, shared emotions – Sam has crafted a touching tribute to his mother, and one that fans will surely relate to ahead of Mother’s Day.

Sam says, “What My Mother Said is a song that has moved me from day one.. The writing process was so emotional and the song came together in such an organic way! I’m really proud of this one. It fits the vibe of this EP to a T! I think you’ll love it :)”

In recent weeks, Sam has been posing the question, ‘What’s the best advice your mum’s ever given you?’, to friends and family. Answers range from hilarious to heartbreaking, and all content can be seen on his TikTok account.

While ‘What My Mother Said’ finds Sam looking back, the EP’s other new song sees him imagining his future. ‘Dear Future Wife’ is a love letter in song to that special someone who is waiting over the horizon for him. It’s full of mysteries which only heighten the anticipation. Who is she? Where is she now? How will they meet? For now, though, the 21-year-old can only guess.

Sam adds, “I always dream about the future and who I’ll spend it with so thought it would be cool to write a little letter to that someone.”

The rising singer-songwriter counts John MayerKhalidDonovan Woods and Passenger among his favourite artists. The latter’s career provided a blueprint that Sam could follow, with the then 14-year-old learning his craft by busking in all weathers to shoppers in Liverpool. As he developed his talents, people gradually stopped to pay attention to his performances – and that interest continued to grow, leading to over a million views at YouTube.

While Sam continues to busk, his talents are also setting him on the path to new adventures. He has performed at Liverpool Football Club and played his debut headline show at the city’s Phase One Venue. Further afield, he performed at the reopening of Battersea Power Station and recently put the finishing touches to the EP during a trip to Vienna
