“While glossy and exuberant on the exterior, Suns Up’s “Whatever Happened, It’s Alright Now” offers much more than meets the eye,” – THE LINE OF BEST FIT
Today (20th August), Sussex based indie outfit Suns Up release their brand new EP & single ‘Whatever Happened, It’s Alright Now’ via new label Runway Artists.Fronted by vocalist David Kelly, with Sam Salkeld on guitar and Matt Wagstaff on drums, the band burst onto the scene in 2019 with an effervescent ability to fuse modern indie and dream-pop influences which has seen them tipped by key names like CLASH, Earmilk and Atwood Magazine through to Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing, John Kennedy at Radio X and Amazing Radio.Produced by Gethin Pearson (JAWS, Orla Gartland, Kele Okereke) and Max Marlow(Declan McKenna) – the new EP, the band’s first music since 2020’s standalone single ‘Grows’ is the product of David Kelly’s 2020 return to Chichester following a stint in London.Reacquainted with the town he grew up in, ‘Whatever Happens, It’s Alright Now’ finds Kelly reinspired; across four brand new tracks he reflects upon early life, childhood memories and the emotions stirred up by his return. Lacing evocative, retrospective lyricism throughout simmering grooves and vibrant, sun-soaked guitars –  the EP, shaped by both the words they would tell to their younger selves, and the words they choose to live by in the present day, marks another level of growth and maturity in both Suns Up’s sound and songwriting. Also released today, title track ‘Whatever Happened, It’s Alright Now’ embodies the reflective nature Kelly has threaded throughout the EP.  Looking back on the unease of being in a relationship which feels out of sync, it’s a realisation that it’s perfectly normal for a relationship to need work.Speaking on ‘Whatever Happened’, Suns Up elaborate: “I think it’s a phase that a lot of people go through where you’re really trying to make things work, but you feel like you’re going round in circles. It’s okay for relationships to need work, and it’s important you can look back together and say ‘Whatever Happened, It’s Alright Now’.”
‘Whatever Happened, It’s Alright Now’, the new single & EP from Suns Up is available now via all digital platforms.Suns Up will hit the road in February 2022 for a long awaited headline tour, including dates in Guildford, Leeds and Manchester.
