PLAYS THE WILDERNESS AND THE ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVALS THIS SUMMER
“Timeless, soulful pop that feels instantly familiar.” – The Line of Best Fit “We bet on Berg for future stardom.” – tmrw “Unafraid to channel raw emotions.” – Wonderland |
After her powerful and ethereal debut single, ‘Into the Sea’, Lexi Berg, the Swedish-American singer-songwriter confirmed she is on the rise with her deeply moving second track ‘Helpless To Help You.’ The song received Radio 2 airplay from the BBC’s Jo Whiley, and was added to multiple playlists by Spotify and Apple Music. It also led to tastemaker features from The Line of Best Fit, the Sunday Mirror and tmrw as well as a Mahogany Session, as well as a long list of celeb admirers such as Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Pinnock, Bianca Jagger, Amelia Windsor and Rebecca Ferguson. Now, with her exciting new single, ‘Midnight Sun,’ Lexi once again turns to her powerful Nordic roots for inspiration, setting the song in her native Sweden, where eternal summer nights provide a luscious landscape for love and enchantment. Set to a backdrop of silky ‘70s-tinged acoustic pop with a dynamic contemporary production, Lexi’s vocals in the song, simmer with passion but also the melancholy that comes with knowing that the moment is fleeting. Unlike ‘Into the Sea’, which celebrated the power of the sea to heal our bruised emotions, ‘Midnight Sun’ revels in another natural force: the sun. Listen HERE. “The sun can be up all night during the Swedish summers,” says Lexi. “There is mystery and magic in that light. This song is about reconnecting with someone in your past on a Swedish summer night, in that dreamy haze of never-ending light. It’s about one last, melancholy encounter.” ‘Midnight Sun’ was produced and co-written with Jimmy Hogarth (Amy Winehouse, Sia and Duffy) and Jim Eliot (Ellie Golding and Foxes). The songs video depicts a couple enjoying one last midsummer escape at the end of their relationship. Surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of the Jurassic coast and the New Forest, their memories and love are strong but tainted by the knowledge that when their journey ends, so does their relationship. The melancholy and nostalgia of their love is aided by the grainy, bleached out photography and a classic 1966 Ford Mustang. It was directed by Drew Cox (Jorja Smith, JP Cooper). Throughout cinema’s award season, Lexi capitalised on the growing attention by releasing ‘Into The Sea’, her first single for the Warner Music UK label EastWest Records, followed by ‘Helpless To Help You’. ‘Midnight Sun’, ‘Helpless To Help You’ and ‘Into The Sea’ will all feature on Lexi’s eagerly anticipated debut EP ‘Empire of One,’ coming soon. This summer will also see Lexi perform her first major shows since emerging as a break-out new talent. She will play the sold-out Wilderness, which runs from August 5th-8th, and then the sold-out Isle of Wight Festival on the weekend of September 16th-19th. Lexi Berg (full name Alexandra Berglöf) was born in Stockholm, Sweden and grew up on the sea, spending much of her childhood on a houseboat docked next door to an amusement park. The boat was outfitted with a piano. A trained classical pianist, Lexi’s talents also flourished as a vocalist, prompting offers when she was 13 from labels and producers eager to shape her as a young pop star. But after the suicide of a beloved uncle who lived with the family, she left for America, then Edinburgh and London, where she began to explore her own path as a songwriter and artist, away from the input of others. A turning point in her career came when she sent some early demos to Faris Badwan of The Horrors, which made such an impression that they recorded three tracks, including ‘What If’. Lexi’s independent hustle – pitching directly to blogs and streaming services – landed her on Spotify and Apple playlists where she was picked up by sync companies, leading to the soundtrack of ‘Pieces Of A Woman’ and a Warner deal. Lexi has created a catalogue of over 100 compositions this year alone. Her key collaborators, besides Jimmy Hogarth and Jim Eliot, also include Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Wayne Hector (Kylie, One Direction) and Sacha Skarbek (Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey). |
