WHICH FOLLOWS ON AUGUST 20TH
RETROSPECTIVE CAMPAIGN CONTINUES WITH
‘WATCH OVER ME (EARLY WORKS 2002-2009)’ ON SEPTEMBER 10TH
Lissie’s dive into her vaults for her current retrospective has unveiled a wealth of strong material, as evidenced by recent releases from ‘It’s Not Me’ to ‘All Be Okay’. They might possess a different flavour or be a little more raw in comparison to the Lissie we heard on her huge breakthrough ‘Catching A Tiger’, but they’re mistakenly her: classically melodic folk-rock, with an expressive voice delivering evocative snapshots of true life experiences. Lissie continues the campaign by sharing ‘A Bird Could Love A Fish’. The song will feature on ‘Catching A Tiger (Anniversary Edition)’, which follows on August 20th. LISTEN HERE. Recorded with Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Modest Mouse) during sessions for ‘Catching A Tiger’, ‘A Bird Could Love A Fish’ is a fascinating addition to the original album. Veering towards psychedelic folk with shimmering guitars, the song finds Lissie precisely enunciating a parable for a love that can never be. “‘A Bird Could Love a Fish’ is a bit of an unusual song for me to have written,” says Lissie. “My lyrics are generally pretty true to life and straightforward, while this felt more like telling a tale, a metaphor. A common theme throughout my music has been the disintegration of romantic relationships. Even then, back in 2008 or so, my unconventional path made settling down difficult. I had seen a picture and poem to the effect of a bird and a fish falling in love and I wanted to explore that because I related. The bird needs the sky and the air to fly and the fish, the water and depth to survive and so there was something curious and heartbreaking about that to me. While there could be mutual love, it couldn’t realistically last forever.” After ‘Catching A Tiger (Anniversary Edition)’ is unleashed, Lissie will take a step back further in time with the release of ‘Watch Over Me (Early Works 2002-2009)’. Its nine songs show Lissie’s early evolution as an artist, cementing the identity to match her already accomplished writing. All of Lissie’s recent releases are available as instant grats for fans who download their respective albums here. All bundles featuring both albums on vinyl and/or CD will also feature an exclusive signed photographic print. Lissie recently previewed the ‘Anniversary Edition’ by playing a special ‘Catching A Tiger’ live stream show to celebrate the 11th anniversary of its release. The award-winning and acclaimed Illinois-born and Iowa-based singer, songwriter, and guitarist Lissie unassumingly established a reputation as a global voice with the release of ‘Catching A Tiger’ in 2010. The album’s Stateside praise was replicated with acclaim in the UK from the BBC, Evening Standard, Uncut and The Independent, who described it as, “As refreshing a slice of pop as these jaded ears have heard in years.” She was nominated for Best Breakthrough Act at the Q Awards, and the album eventually sold 300,000 copies worldwide – 100,000 of which were in the UK, resulting in it being certified Gold. After four albums, multiple EPs, and countless gigs, Lissie still derives the strongest connection from music. She manages to consistently connect, whether on tape, on-screen for David Lynch’s ‘Twin Peaks’ and Peter Farrelly’s ‘Loudermilk’, at rallies for Senator Bernie Sanders, or during one of her sold-out shows. And now she continues to make strides forward, telling her story like never before by going back to where it all began. |
