A spectacular breakout year for Swedish-American singer-songwriter Lexi Berg keeps on getting better. Her song ‘What If’prompted a wave of discovery after featuring in the Netflix smash ‘Pieces of a Woman’, a film which gained countless nominations throughout awards season. She then released ‘Into The Sea’ as her debut for the Warner Music UK label EastWest Records, a single which Jo Whiley played on Radio 2 and which, with its dramatic Scandi-style video, earned rave reviews from followers as well as famous fans of Lexi’s music, including Anya Taylor-JoyNicholas Pinnock, Bianca Jagger, Amelia Windsor and Rebecca Ferguson.

Lexi Berg continues to thrive as she now shares her new single ‘Helpless To Help You’. After the more meditative tone of her previous two singles, ‘Helpless To Help You’ is charged with fervour, with Lexi’s powerful vocals evoking the style of a young Stevie Nicks. Rich with bright harmonies, and a classic familiar-yet-fresh feel, it’s an uplifting anthem that reaches out to someone in need. And while the title suggests that it’s about a situation that can’t be rectified, a subtle lyrical twist reveals an offer of support that provides light amidst dark troubles. LISTEN HERE.

“‘Helpless To Help You’ is about the frustration many of us have experienced, when not being able to help someone, we love,”says Lexi. “it’s about accepting that although we can’t fix everything, we can still be there for them.”

“So many people have had such a difficult time during the pandemic. It’s never easy watching the people we love suffer. Sometimes all we want to do is offer solutions. Yet the answer is often  just listening and showing up. That can be a lifeline.”

‘Helpless To Help You’ provides further evidence of Lexi’s innate ability to express the universally relatable aspects of her personal experience. Her songs are broadly about day-to-day life – transformed into something grander: modern pop with passion and soul, with roots split between ‘70s bohemian folk-rock and her powerful Nordic heritage.

The song was written by Lexi, with its producer Jimmy Hogarth (Amy Winehouse, Sia, Duffy, Paolo Nutini) and  Benjamin Francis-Leftwich. It’s one of a catalogue of over 100 songs she has created just this year, with further collaborators including Wayne Hector (KylieOne Direction) and Jim Eliot (FoxesEllie Goulding).

‘Helpless To Help You’ is released alongside an official video, which was directed by Drew Cox (Jorja SmithPlan B). It uses eye-catching choreography to explore the story of a couple who are slowly drifting apart. But just like the song, it’s ultimately a message of hope – their love and commitment helps them to overcome their obstacles. The performances were choreographed by Gareth Walker, who worked closely with artists including Jay-Z, Rihanna and Coldplay during his time as an Associate Director for the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics. WatchHERE.

Lexi Berg (full name Alexandra Berglof) was born in Stockholm, Sweden and grew up on the sea, spending much of her childhood on a houseboat, outfitted with a piano. A trained classical pianist, her talents also flourished as a vocalist, prompting offers when she was 13 from labels and producers who were eager to shape her as a young pop star. But after the suicide of a beloved uncle who lived with the family, she left for America, then Edinburgh and London, where she began to explore her own path as a songwriter and artist, away from the input of others.

A turning point in her career came when she sent some early demos to Faris Badwan of The Horrors, which made such an impression that they recorded three tracks, including ‘What If’Lexi’s independent hustle – pitching directly to blogs and streaming services – got her on Spotify and Apple playlists where she was picked up by sync companies, leading to the soundtrack of ‘Pieces Of A Woman’ and a Warner deal.

Lexi is set to release her exciting debut EP ‘Empire of One’ this summer.
