Following on from the track’s release last month, Dominican-American vocalist, songwriter and poet María Isabel has released a brand new performance of her latest single ‘Love song’ for popular youth culture platform COLORS, in collaboration with Burberry. The track shows off a beautiful new facet of María’s sound, stripping her warm R&B tones down to their raw elements to put her resonant yet featherweight vocal on centre stage. Exploring growing up both mentally and physically, and how one’s perception and emphasis of love can switch in this time – going from focusing your attention on others, to realising you can’t fully flourish without loving yourself first. ‘Love song’ is a carefree ode to this kind of self love, with María musing on her own growth while gliding over an instrumental that feels indebted to soul icons before her – resulting in a blissed out track that’s perfect for summer sunrises and sunsets. On both ‘Love song’ and its companion track, ‘Buy Your Own Flowers’, María says: “This past year has been a very transitional time in my life. With so much happening around me, I realized I was focused solely on things outside of myself. Both of these songs stem from that chaos for me. They are the story of me learning how to give myself the love and attention I was giving to everything else around me, and remembering that I come first. I used to pair being alone and being lonely as identical truths, and now I feel differently and want to turn my new-found self love into music.” With this Burberry x COLORS performance of ‘Love song’, María Isabel proves her own brand of vulnerable, honest R&B is at home on the live stage. A flawless vocal with a genuine performance that breaks down the barrier between artist and audience, María’s showing on COLORS is a welcome preview for her forthcoming debut live shows and also helps bridge the gap between this release and more new music on the horizon very soon.
